Very admirable, Redbean.
Come to think of it. We haven't been able to win a war in quite a spell. You reckon female Generals would be more decisive and willing to go in and get the job done right? I mean, done right, this Iraq invasion could have been a done deal in a very short time. Instead, the top brass, being male, seems to be stretching this thing out so they can get more funding and a higher American body count. A woman Military Commander, being a little matronly, wouldn't want to see a lot of someones kids getting killed and would look to the shortest distance between two points. |

I don't think gender honestly has a thing to do with it. Get the politicians outta the military. Let a true Military person run the military and the job would get done and get done right.

I am a proud US Air Force vet. When I was in basic training we were sent to a briefing in which we were told about various job opportunities. One of which was ParaRescue. I raised my hand and asked the instructor, "How do I apply sir?" I was informed that being female I couldn't. I was madder than a wet hornet. How dare someone tell me I couldn't serve my country in this capacity simply because I was female. I think it's a load of sh*t that a female isn't allowed to any job within the military that a male does simply because of her gender. If physically capable of doing it we should be able to do it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with women being included in the Selective Service registration. If I had been required to register I would have done it gladly with no b*tching. I would have proudly served in ParaRescue if I had been allowed. I would have done the job just as well as any man. I may have lost my life in doing so but I can guarantee my family would have been proud and wouldn't have made an issue of the fact that I was female and shouldn't have been in the job. The military needs to come out of the Dark Ages were equality is concerned. If a woman is capable and willing to do the job whatever it is, then let her do it! Bean, The military cant come out of the dark ages for Infantry. Its a nasty job. If they drafted women for the Infantry they would either have to lower the Physical requirements (Bad Idea) or only a very small number would survive training. An Infantry unit is only as fast or as strong as their weakest member. |

If women want to be drafted for Grunt units, I say let them, but dont lower the physical standards of a US Infantry soldier just for them.

But there are women who could meet the in place physical requirements and the only thing keepin them from a certain job is their gender. If they met the requirements then let them do the job. |
