I had knee surgery in September. I went through physical therapy through December. I finally decided that it's time for me to get healthy. I joined a gym. I found out that I really need to work on my flexibility and strength in my legs. Anyone have any good tips on stretches I can do to boost the strength and flexibility in my legs??

I have full range of motion in the leg I had surgery on. I can bend my knee all the way back and straighten it all the way straight. Just need to work on strength.

There is a ton, but lunges, squats with/without weights. Yoga is great for flexibility...Inquire at the gym and I hope there is someone there with the knowledge to instruct you. Good luck!

The trainers at the gym should be able to take you through a program that will focus on what you need. Make sure you tell them about your knee surgery.

Yep, yoga and pilates. Your gym might offer classes?

STAY w/ the bike riding, elliptical and stairs to build up your hamstring/quadriceps strength, preventative necessity!

They know about the surgery. They currently have me working on lunges. But I'm having a seriously hard time doing the. I couldn't do them in Physical Therapy either.

Careful then, your body is telling you to pull back! DO NOT push into pain w/ that. Even w/ stretches, be very careful! It takes a long time to come back from knee injuries. Even then, it will always be something to baby now!!!

We have a Y, but I don't have the extra cash to be a member at 2 different gyms. I joined the one I'm at now because it is opened 24 hrs.

Think that you might get some beginner yoga DVDs, see if you television channel set up has an exercise channel. Just GO SLOW AND LISTEN to your knee. It will let you know!!!

Maybe join the Y, after this membership expires? They usually have a lot of free classes.

\Try swimming. It relaxes very much so.

My second home was physical therapy at one point in my life...be careful with how far you go down...It will take time...buy an exercise ball and put it between you and a wall, start out with a 45 degree angle with knees bent in front of you and as you are squating lean your back into the ball, remember to tighten your core as you go down(not all the way to 90 degress if you can't do it, DON"T). 3reps of 5 will give you enough rest time in between. TAKE IT SLOW, it really does take time. But it will reap results I promise you, Hang in there!! flowerforyou
