marriage is a contract if you get a license

the license is issued by the state

if you break the contract you are thus breaking a state issued document

you break a state issued document you can be prosecuted

-------------------------------------------------------------

if the state truly kept religion out of it gay marriage would be legal

and you would not need a contract in the first place

In Virginia, you can use adultery as grounds for divorce and you can sue both parties civilly for a settlement. I'm not sure if you can be thrown in jail for it but you can lose very big financially if someone wants to push it that far.

Who cares if adultery is a punishable offense or not, if in your heart you do not know that it is an immoral thing to do then no law will change that.

Adultery is also a UCMJ punishable offense (meaning, losing pay, free time, rank or get jail time) if you are in the military.
