Fox News' Chris Wallace: Is Obama even president?

"Well, again, we're wondering here whether or not Barack Obama in fact is the president of the United States," Chris Wallace told Fox News viewers, well over an hour after Obama had taken the oath of office today.

Fox News replayed the swearing-in moment when President Obama and Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. each bobbled the words to the constitutional oath. "They had a kind of garbled oath," Wallace said.

"It's just conceivable that this will end up going to the courts," Wallace speculated.

A bit of wishful thinking on behalf of (presumably conservative) Fox viewers?

Perhaps. But Wallace quickly added: "As Brit Hume rightly pointed out, if it goes to the Supreme Court, certainly Chief Justice Roberts will say that he took the oath."

Oh but should the democrats even mention the 2000 election they are so unamerican!!!! It will be to see them make a mockery of this....

I don't think an oath is such an issue for Obama. Don't see why wouln't he take it. Not an issue, IMHO.

So, here's what happened during the oath.

Initially, Obama interrupted Roberts midway through the opening line, in which the president repeats his name and solemnly swears.

Next in the oath is the phrase "that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States." But Roberts rearranged the order of the words, not saying "faithfully" until after "president of the United States."

That appeared to throw Obama off. He stopped abruptly at the word "execute."

Recognizing something was off, Roberts then repeated the phrase, putting "faithfully" in the right place but without repeating "execute."

Obama then repeated Roberts' original, incorrect version: "... the office of president of the United States faithfully."

After that, they were back on track.

So why wasn't Roberts "thrown off" by Obama's interruption? It's so funny how different people try to spin this.

What interruption?

Freudian slip, don't you think, to omit 'faithfully,' since he's been under such fire with the whole Rick Warren thing, and then so many non-believers that want things their way. Though, I guess of course, the word, faithfully used in this way is not really referred to religion, but rather, as 'loyal.'

The conservative darling Roberts gets it wrong and now it's twisted around to be something sinister on Obama's behalf? Now the spin is Obama left out the word faithfully as part of some greater message or agenda?

Pages and pages could be filled with the mangled phrases, mispronounced words and boneheaded statements by Bush. They range from humorous to potentially dangerous. But...if anyone here brings them up...oh bad us for being amused.

Obama did interrupt Roberts - that is fact. They both messed up. That is the truth. So why can't you admit Obama goofed too.

So...maybe Fox gets 1 out of 10 things right.

Obama was not suppose to speak until Roberts said the whole first line of the oath. Obama chimed in after Roberts said his name....That was the interruption.
