I wish I went to Military School when I was going to school. I went to a lousy public school instead- I couldn't tell you how many times I had to dodge bullets.

(((Scotty))) (((Izzie))) Well, my son just burst my bubble... He just told me he wants to go to Military school... just TALK with him.. CALMLY, and see what his reasons for it.. and just how serious he is.. remember.. calm.. And if that doesn't work, lie your pants off. Tell him that the only kids who go to military school are the miscreants who screwed around too much to go to a normal school. Tell him that the teachers still take part in corporal punishment (meaning they still paddle the heck outta you for the slightest screw-up). Tell him that the food sucks and he's not allowed to leave the campus for McDonald's or other restaurant food. If none of that works, tell him that they won't let him keep his XBOX 360/Playstation/Nintendo Wii if he goes to military school. That's enough to make him swear off all that stuff right then and there! |

I tried all of that Moof.. Well not the paddling part... I'm proud of him for wanting to do it, he wants to set himself apart for college etc. I am very proud of that.. But I don't want him to not live at home.. but how can I be selfish with him at 13 wanting to start setting himself up for a good college and a career??? I can't right?

(((Fire))) It's simple- you're going through the whole "leavin' the nest" anxiety that most (if not all) mothers go through with their kids. However, you're gonna have to accept that he's gonna leave at SOME point... if not for military school, then for college or something TRULY insidious (like marriage... *shudders*). Heck- my mom did that with me when I was on my way to college. I was originally gonna go to college in another state, but she kept begging and pleading for me to stay local. She went so far as to keep acceptance packets from me at one point so I'd miss the preliminary admissions applications. The GOOD thing here is that junior is wanting to make GOOD choices with his life. He isn't some teenage dummy whose only into his XBOX or skateboarding or some other waste of time. If you can afford the military school, then let him try it. Either he'll get homesick and want to go back home, or he'll enjoy it so much that he'll never come back home again. |
