what's the first rock and roll record? That's Alright Mama by Elvis Presley 1954 be seeing you Wrong. I could be wrong too but I believe it was "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston and the Delta Cats in 1951. I know it wasn't Elvis Presley though. |

Yeah, I don't think it was Elvis. Can't remember who, but 99% sure it wasn't Elvis.

I could be wrong too but I believe it was "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston and the Delta Cats in 1951. I know it wasn't Elvis Presley though. Jackie Brenston was credited with recording "Rocket 88" in Sam Philips studio in 1951, but the "Delta Cats" weren't an actual band. It was Ike Turner's backing band and Jackie Brenston did the vocal track. Brenston played saxophone for Turner in his band. |

It's very difficult to pin down THE RECORD that started rock and roll. Its roots are too complex.

sorry people but elvis mde roll n roll if it was not for him where would roll be today?? what korn and all the other gay ****. sorry for my french correction. korn is not gay. they used to be hard core. buuuuuuut they went and got all effed up on drugs and went all mainstream. my first album that wasn't r&b or rap was The Misfits. <3333333 i've never had to buy a rock n roll album cause my dad already owns them all. lol |

i think i misunderstood the point of this topic. i thought it was the first one YOU owned. my bad for getting off topic. Actually, I think where you went with it is more interesting.. Everyone has a soundtrack to their lives... I'm always curious to see what music moves and impacts people. (= |

I dunno....it's REALLY subjective. There's a LOT that could possibly claim the title, but I'm still thinking "Good Rockin' Tonight" by Wynonie Harris, way back in '47. Then again, I can think of others that were recorded earlier than that, but the actual term "rock and roll" hadn't actually been coined yet, despite the words had been used since practically the turn of the century (obviously within a different context).
Who can really tell? It's a big toss-up. |

there is obviously no DEFINITIVE answer... for the roots of rock are complex... but IMO the first rock and roll record WAS That's Alright Mama by Elvis 1954...that's my story and i'm sticking to it...be seeing you
