Spinoff from a thought on another thread....

Why is it that 92% of all the profiles I read include the line, "I'm different, I'm not like anybody else you ever met," and then they go on to write the exact same things that are in every other profile on the planet?

Seems to me that truly "different" people wouldn't feel the need to proclaim themselves as such -- who are you trying to convince?

Don't sit there and tell me how different you are -- prove it.

Plagiarizing what's already nothing less than a boilerplate cliche-fest isn't going to do it.

But...but.....okay.....I am "common" not to mention boring....

I don't know. We're all different, so why is that a necessity to include that comment?

I'm not sure -- I keep thinking there's a sort of "Whatever I say about myself, they will have to believe it" mentality at work there -- which is SO wrong, I have to wonder if they've thought it out at all....

It's like when someone writes "I am an honest, loving, caring person, no games, no drama, no baggage" -- right, so you just came out of the cryogenic sleep pod after 1400 years and you're starting over.

Or: "I'm really intelligent and creative. Anything else you want to know, you'll have to ask." OK, so NOW I believe you're intelligent and creative. You sure showed me....

I have to laugh at this... because I have told someone if you doubt my pictures go see if they are on the post office walls...

Lex, I am not in the 92% and my actions speak for themselves. So while I can't answer your question, I do understand the intent.

But........but but.........I'm different I promise ya I'm. Lordy lordy hope like heck there is not another one out there like me. Heck I'm just ornery as hell my daddy did not always tell me I would argue with a telephone pole for no reason at all.

There might be some with the same qualities as I have or that each of us have but we are all truly unique in our own way.

My experience, they are B/Sing you trying to stand out and avoid whatever hurt you in the past so they can try to get away with it again with you. I am too cynical?

I dance the razorblade. I'm out of the norm. But I'm not much for proclamations either. I see a lot of the "same" claiming they are "different". I think those people have been browbeaten by TV commercials so much they sound like one.

True, and I found out those damn telephone poles can stand up a lot longer then I can and they want budge one centimeter either.

Now you know why my profile is as "bare bones" as it is. It says what needs to be said in a concise, succinct manner.

Let 'em figure it out for themselves.

I try not to analyze to much what others do or write on their profile, it is only a small portion of who someone is and we all know that what we think of ourselves is not always what we are in reality. So a profile is mostly for the basics and if the basics seems interesting to you then you are suppose to find out by yourself who that person is.

I've probably read every post you've made here, and you clearly ARE different, unique, individual. That's what I like about you. But I never see you going around proclaiming "I'm different!" to the world. You don't need to. You don't have to convince anyone.
