that overly emotional people can be emotional because...
of the books they read the movies they watch or the music they listen to. assuming they are all depressing and have something the person has always wanted? |

There is a difference between media exerting an influence and media being in control. I believe in personal accountability.

being overly emotional comes from wanting attention from others, any kind of media has no part of that shortage!

Well I think that the environment one chooses to surround themselves with, can influence a person's moods. So if they are choosing to listen to depressing music, watch sad movies, and read sad books, of course. On the other side of the coin, if they chose upbeat themes, I think that they would be more upbeat and able to see a more optimistic point of view about life and thus be emotional in a more positive aspect. |

People are always telling me I am the way I am because of my music. Which in some part of life it may be true. I listen to my music (metal) because number one above all things I love the drums and shredding/heavy guitars of it all. I can live without the lyrics, and yes I can understand them lol. Most the technical bands are some of the most amazing musicians I've ever heard, no matter what speed they play at. On the other hand, I'm a pretty morbid person, and my music reflects that. I can relate alot of things with alot of my music, so when I get sad or upset I have certain bands/songs I play when in those moods.

Nope, i dont think external influences cause ppl to be emotional, its just their disposition. Some ppl r more emotionally inclined than others.

Hmm. Haha, I just like the darker side of life. I find beauty in darkness and I don't view death as a horrible thing forever. |

Media influences, books or musics only affect you if you let it.
If your feeling down and depress it might not be a good idea to go see "Schindler's List" but that's only if your letting an outside subject/event rule your own feelings or it may do you good if you see that your little problems are nothing compare to others. You could also see a comedy to make you laugh and forget about your emotion for a little while but in the end we are the master of our emotions nothing or nobody else to blame/thank but ourselves. |

The adjective I use for these folks is histrionic.
histrionic Definition his·tri·onic (his′trē än′ik) adjective of, or having the nature of, acting or actors overacted or overacting; theatrical; artificial; affected Those who enjoy drama and not those I enjoy. I deal with them only in a work arena, for limited and finite periods. That's how I like it. |

I think the slang term is "emo"...
From Dictionary of playground slang.... emo n. "In many ways a 'would-be Goth' without the balls to cut themselves totally off from society. Descriptor for someone who is 'into' 'emotional music' and/or is an 'emotional' sort of person... i.e. introverted... and depressing to be with for anyone who isn't also an emo." |
