To me, no picture in profile isn't a big deal. I sort of like that first because it provides for more privacy, and secondly, because I am less affected by a personal attraction in my judgment of someone's point.

It's easier to spot a fool if you haven't seen a person's face.

However, I think it should be helpful if default pictures were definite male and female kind.

This would save me from browsing other guys profiles.

if you're using the search feature and specify women or men, you shouldn't end up with the wrong gender. otherwise, i'm totally misunderstanding your point.

Some people don't know a hen from a rooster.

i find it cuts down - immeasurably - the amount of email i receive when i post a photo of the both of us as my default picture.

most of them don't bother to read the profile anyway; the photo indicates i'm part of a couple.

If my user name was Idontknow1 and you seen this cat. you wouldn't know if I was a guy or girl.

And what is to stop a man from setting up a fake female profile? Or vice versa? Do you have any idea how many times a day that is done on these sites?

I need recent photos and then a phone conversation at some point to make me at ease. Of course a webcam is the ideal if you are not close enough to meet for coffee.

there's a user on here who has a pic of a female, lists himself as a man and then says something about calling him queen in his headline. i'm assuming he's gay, but who knows? now that's confusing.

i agree

i trust nobody until they've proven themselves to be exactly who they say they are.

if they don't like that, too bad.

If people are trying to be deceptive they will always find a way.

I tell everyone straight up, I am old, fat & ugly.

I meant looking up a profile of a person, after seeing him/her making interesting point on forums. Of course, I don't search for guys.

I think what he means is like Orange Cat.
some generic picture. Reads the post and decides to look at who wrote it. Is Orange Cat male or female?

Like I said on the thread I started

it is not about being shallow. It is about a comfort level

OC is male, & he has a picture of himself on his profile.

Nothing, of course. Ultimately, we are all doomed. I am just talking small stuff. On some sites it is pretty clear, here is a default guy and here is a default girl picture. On this one, it is something weird.

OC has had real and recent pics up at times. Most of us know who he is.

I knew exactly what you meant your name Nogames with a generic picture could be male or female.
