I understand there are many reasons not to do this. Certainly some of these people will just drift back or avoid any punishment. Still, anyone in this country illegally or awaiting citizenship that commits a violent crime should be deported. Ideally after they have served their sentences I think.
SEATTLE - Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire wants illegal immigrants serving time in state jails deported, a move intended to save the state more than $9 million in the next two-year budget. The deportation proposal is modeled after a program in Arizona that has saved the state more than $18.5 million since 2005, said Eldon Vail, Secretary of the state Department of Corrections. "It's not an ideal choice, if revenue was there, I'd say have them do their time," Vail said. "Is justice better served? It's a tough question to wrestle with when you don't have resources." |

*Shrugs* I think it's a good idea.. I mean we're paying enough for people that are here legally.. That's ALOT of money coming out of the taxpayers pocket. We need to focus more on keeping them out in the first place before we can really hope to achieve anything from even doing this. Because I hate to see guilty people walking free as much as the next person but still 9 million in the next two years just in that state.. Imagine what would happen if we did that in all 50 states

Would they serve the same time in thier own countries as they would here? What kind of violence are we talking about.
I never understood why we support so many illegals in jails here in the states, deportation makes more sense to me unless I am missing something here. Or unless the crime is so violent and their own country would not hold them behind bars... |

depends on the violence.are we talking serial killer, armed robber or the dude smacked his wife.Personally I would rather see the non violent perpetrators released legal or not.If I am being murdered or shot though I do demand they at least speak English.

I am not sure on this but I am sure I will be corrected by some who are happy to correct others but...
I think the fate of someone deported to another country who is currently serving time for offenses committed in the US would depend largely on established treaties with individual countries. Some time back there was a dispute in Texas regarding some Mexican nationals who had been tried and sentenced to death in Texas. The contention was these individuals were not afforded their right to consult with the Mexican consulate if I recall rightly. Mexico asked the feds to delay or suspend the sentences until they could weigh in. Bush asked the state of Texas to delay executions I believe and the state told the feds hands off. I should look this up as it's an interesting conflict. Some countries will not extradite to the US because of the death penalty as well. I imagine other countries also do not want to be burdened with the cost of incarcerating people who have committed crimes in the US. |

I imagine other countries also do not want to be burdened with the cost of incarcerating people who have committed crimes in the US. Now that makes me mad, as if we want that burden, they aren't our citizens. It's not like we don't have plenty of our own. That sucks! Where is Mexico's responsibility for it's offenders. |
