send them what you can. Even sending ten dollars a week can keep a collection agency off your back.

I had to get a hernia operation with no insurance a few years ago.It was going to cost over $15,000.The hospital said they had a charity program if you didn't make a certain amount of money every year.Since I was under that amount I got a big break on my bill.I think in the end I had to pay around $1,700 dollars.I would ask the hospital if there was some way they could give you a break on your bills.I would also talk to various government organizations that deal with low income programs that pay bills(such as electricity, medical, rent, etc). Many elderly and immigrants take advantage of these programs.
I also know hospitals allow you to make payments over time. Many times it is a very low minimum amount. If all else fails you may have to do a medical bankruptcy. |
