"When a man sits with a pretty girl for an hour, it seems like a minute. But let him sit on a hot stove for a minute, and it's longer than any hour. That's relativity." - Albert Einstein

What is your understanding of the theory of relativity?

I understand it.. atleast what I read on Wikipidia.. But, to explain it to someone would be totally off. Basically things can be the same and they can be opposite? SO yeah.. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction

smokin the theory that space and time are relative concepts rather than absolute conceptssmokin

My understanding of it is that all of the rednecks are related to all of the other rednecks.

Thats my theory of relativity

Do you mean General Relativity? I have a basic understanding of the concept(s) but I am by no means a physicist. General relativity is a theory of gravitation. The development of general relativity began with the equivalence principle, under which the states of accelerated motion and being at rest in a gravitational field (for example when standing on the surface of the Earth) are physically identical.I barely passed a basic Physics course in college and squeaked by with a C. I think thats why I might be attracted to men who are strong in Physics because its my weak point as far as the sciences go. I might have a better grasp of it now in my 30s and be able to take the time that it requires, but back in my 20s I simply had no patience for it in a classroom setting.

Not attracted enough to move to Florida! Lol

General relativity explains how spacetime is a thing, and that mass will curve this spacetime giving rise to gravity.

Special relativity is not really its own thing, it is a subset of the general relativity and was the first aspect of this phenomena that was isolated and explained by Einstein.

It takes the single aspect of spacetime: that relative velocity plays a role in distinguishing perspectives, and that motion effects the outcome of observers witnessing actions and whether or not those actions took place in what order, or even simultaneously.

Events cannot be said to have taken place simultaneously unless the observers relative motion is identical.

Special relativity also explains the occurrence of time dilation.

The faster you move through space the slower you move through time.

Now that the theory is considered proven, in a weird way, it mitigates the need to study sub-atomic particles. It wont stop us though, and we'll spend millions of dollars figuring out we wasted all that money on unecessary research.

I really don't understand this comment, why is this so?

Thank you. Like I said, I get it yet Physics was never my strong point.I was always more interested in the biological sciences and that led to Paleontology.

Mass of subatomic particals is negligable and purely theoretical. It's like my weight scale. I either weigh 162.5 lb or 162.500013 lb. It's much like comparing my weight before and after I fart. I know it happened, but it didn't make me change my pants unless the fart had a lump in it.
