Topic: Oh God another anime going hollywood | |
---|---|
When I first heard about that I was like, I thought it could be alright. But now that I think about it, I don't know how good it could be. Keanu Reeves as Spike? He might be able to pull it off. I'll probably see it regardless. after being typecasted so hardcore as he has been... i personally think he can pull off spike. i mean he's not a hardcore amazing actor but the role of spike isnt asking him to freakin go for oscar gold. geez. as long as they keep the theme i'm okay. ;p yoko kanno is a freakin genius. and ya know what??? why trip if hollywood wants a crack at the anime/manga world? i mean why not walk in there with an open free childlike mind and let yourself believe whatever's on the screen... you might just enjoy it without the pretentious behavior. it saddens me when i hear my fellow nerds b*tch and complain about a remake or a book turned to movie or mistakes made during a film because god... can't you just enjoy something for once? does your life suck so damned much that you have to tear everything down??? okay i'm done. *heaves* |

The problem is that Hollywood always takes the easy out and can completely twist the story up so bad it is nothing like the original story in any way. Part of the attraction of Anime is the visuals.
For example: Watch Miazaki's Nausica Warrior of the Wind and tell me short of CGI how Hollywood can do the insects let alone the gigantic forest? Then watch Akira directed by Katsuhiro Otomo: Akira is flat out some of the BEST animation ever quality wise. Tell me how Hollywood could ever manage to do visuals on the scale as presented here? Watch the scene when Tetsu Shima escapes the military hospital after his powers begin to awake. The city scenes are incredible. On top of that when the characters speak their jawlines move accurately unlike most Japamation. It is almost the same as trying to do the Disney animated Robin Hood with the animals as actors in live action. The ONLY way they could do that one is CGI and it would be pretty frikken interesting to see it done that way instead of the classic Iron Wire animation we are all used to. Some things do not translate well. MTV's Aeon Flux.... Down right surreal in all ways. I fell in love with the animation first seen on Liquid TV. The live action movie fell short of the original animation's flavor. It was watchable but way different from the animation I came to love for its totally off the wall style and disassociated story line. The reality of it is that Manga and Anime are in themselves a genra of art and the last thing those of us who appreciate the stories and the art pulling a Swan on them ("Swan" is a character from the movie Phantom of the Paradise with Paul Williams. He steals a composers music, ruins the man's life, the man escapes from prison and gets revenge on Swan for what he did to him but the crafty little bastard makes a deal with the devil and the movie get even lovlier from there. Great to watch and it is a dark yet fun movie that really was ahead of its time!!!!!) |

see but thats what i don't get.
i'm a huge anime fan and watch whatever i can get my hands on. i love the art and even enjoy doin my own lil fan art. nothin good trust me. but still.. it brings me pleasure. but what i don't get is people getting so incredibly butthurt by these remakes. i mean they are a homage. sure.. not as great. but someone out there said DAMN THATS SO GOOD.. I WANT TO TRY TO DO IT IN A DIFFERENT FORM. or WHAT IF WE DID IT THIS WAY? its just another way to look at it. if you watch with an open mind.. you might see something you like. instead of tearing everything down as if it were a flaming bag of sh*t from the get go. whats really sad.. is most of these people who want to re-do it.. those people are fans. those people watched it over and over again until they memorized it. i just feel like its nothing but angry negativity from people who won't see the good in it. its not someone trying to commercialize it. its someone trying to show that they thought it was so good.. they wanted to bring it to everyone's eyes. not just us nerds. and if you feel like you're losing a genre.. then maybe you never had a good grip on it in the first place. ohh.. and finally... we aren't the only ones who do remakes bad. Deathnote was horrible. There i said it. Crap. Utter crap. but it was a way for them to bring it to the main stream forefront of japanese media and it did just that. same with yazawa's NANA. which was done much better than any other remake i've ever seen. so maybe its just a matter of choice. maybe its a matter of setting your judgements aside and letting yourself look at it with fresh eyes. god. get over your high handed "nothing can be as good" attitude. |

I agree with you on Deathnote Rockmybobbysocks. It is super Gothic and super esoteric. The plot and storyline are far less than Sherlock Holmes. It is a weak attempt at Gothic Noir.
I learned to hate Gundam. It was way too homogeneous and the artwork seriously Limited. I still like OLD Astroboy. It was so super duper camp but oddly it would make a very interesting movie if it was done like the movie **** Tracy where the flavor of the original comic in characters and color and attire was consistent. Hollywood can kill a good thing. That and not everything in the world of Anime impresses me. One of my friends is a SERIOUS hard core Anime fan and came up with one that was about a club that discussed episodes of anime. The Anime they discussed was one of those where the tough guy is a little girl with a ridiculously over sized sword wearing a WAY over the top dress and all the guys act like wussies. The term Clampimation comes to mind and is a term derived from C.L.A.M.P. Animation studios characters where males are almost always effeminate. I do not remember the name of it but what was a friends cup of tea was too GAY for me. Vampire Hunter D was way dark and way bad assed! Deathnote is weak in comparison to that anime. Have you seen the Arkard series? It very much captures the essence of what a vampire is. Real dark and really goth. |
