Topic: Wondering why??? | |
---|---|
people are sooo rude??? For example...yesterday I posted Do looks count??? Several people responded with a remark that this had just been posted earlier in the day...well everyone is not on here all day long...just wondering why sooo rude?? People tend to be very self-absorbed, and fail to realize that just because they have seen a particular topic before doesn't mean everyone else has seen it. It always amuses me when someone moans "I've seen this same thread 14092 times" while completely ignoring the fact that new people sign up every day; and, for some of them, this will be the first time they've seen the topic posted. Some people just need to realize that the site is for everybody, not just for them. It's a difficult concept for some to grasp. HOT DIGGITY DOG THAT WAS WELL SAID LEX!!! |

pointing out that a thread has been posted 14902 times already does not equate to being "rude".
some people just need to calm down. |

HOT DIGGITY DOG THAT WAS WELL SAID LEX!!! Thank you! This is sort of a pet peeve of mine. I signed up here during the JSH days, at the tail end of 2006, when it was a much smaller site. Even then, there were some who were constantly bemoaning the fact that new people were joining and "ruining" everything -- the most common lament was "I don't like the site the way it is now, it's not [/color=red]MY JSH anymore." As if they had some kind of proprietary rights in it.... Apparently they wanted the site to freeze membership at 6 or 7 people and stagnate ever after. And THAT sounds, to me, like a pretty poor way to run a dating site.... So the site grows....isn't that (at least theoretically) the best-case scenario for most of us? I think so. |

pointing out that a thread has been posted 14902 times already does not equate to being "rude". some people just need to calm down. There is nothing to calm down about as I was never upset or angry...I simply wonder how people can be so judgemental, especially at this time of year. |

pointing out that a thread has been posted 14902 times already does not equate to being "rude". some people just need to calm down. It's in the wording, though. As a general rule, it's done with a sort of "My, aren't the peasants especially annoying tonight!" attitude. As a put-down. "The noobs are so naive and clueless, let's go watch Mr. Howell decant the champagne now." Which I don't think is the kind of cliquey exclusionary elitism we want to be promulgating here. JMO |

It never hurts just to briefly scan the forums to see if the topic you are thinking of posting has not been done to death already. Especially one such as ":do looks matter" I mean common sense would even dictate that this subject matter has been visited before on a dating forum.
Sigh. Dont internalize it but realize this can be a rough crowd at times. Im not condoning that behavior but when people set themselves up for it, well, they set themselves up for it quite frankly. Next time you might look is all. |

But I agree with Lex that it should not be done in a very hurtful or hostile manner. People can take it too far and try to anger members to the point that they fight back. That is inappropriate and is a baiting game that I have seen played far too often on these forums. Lets piss off so and so to the point that they lash out and then we can report them and get them temp banned.. No No No

I'm really not trying to make enemies here...I just think we should all be a little kinder.

I'm really not trying to make enemies here...I just think we should all be a little kinder. ....and a little more aware of the idea that new people simply don't have the histories some of us have here. And if we'd like them to stick around LONG ENOUGH to get histories, then maybe we should be a little more tolerant of their rookie curiosity. We were all new once.... |

We were all new once.... 7306 is a hell of a lotta posts for a newbie Well, it's all relative. Gypsy has over 72 trillion posts -- she has actually rolled over the odometer on the post counter! And Mry's posts isn't one of the "repeatedly-asked-every-six-hours" posts, it's about the occurrence of rude replies when those posts show up. So it's not so much a "newbie" thing, in my mind, as it is a "tolerance for newbies" thing, which is a completely different kettle of wax altogether.... Personally, I think it's a good thing when a long-time member reminds us all that WE have no proprietary claims here -- the site is for everybody, and that includes the person who just signed up 5 minutes ago.... |

Ive actually been reluctant to start threads because it becomes a challenge to come up with new ideas and topics. I started that cosmetic surgery one today and Im not certain if its been done before. It probably has but just not like 8 minutes ago so its kosher. With a site this large, its quite difficult.

I used to post on the forums all the time but have found them rather clickish...now I stop in once in awhile, sometimes just to read. And just to clarify there is a difference between being funny and being down right rude.Everyone should be able to distinguish between good natured humor and rudeness.
