I do not give to any of these types of charities. I give directly. That way I am sure none of my money goes for postage, paying solicitors, advertising, maintaining offices, middlemens payrolls, or religious materials.

I gave at the office..

Actually I did. We had an employee severely injured in an ATV accident a few weeks ago. He was in a coma for a while, lost an arm & has multiple other injuries. I donated a 25.00 gift card to a local grocery store directly to his family. They will get the entire 25.00. I did not donate to the United Way & get any of thier stupid prizes.

I have always put a couple of bucks in the red bucket every year.
I normaly will not give to a charity with a god atached to it.
But I naver see them preaching, if they do it seem pretty low key.
If I thought they were not helping someone because they were gay or did not except their god then I would not give to them, but I would need proof that's the case with them because I like to think that they are one of the good ones.

Since Thanksgiving they're at all the stores that shop. I have my child give them money to teach my child about giving.

I do know some people that they've helped. They gave them diapers, food, and more.

That's a shame about what happened to your co-worker. That was very nice that you helped him.flowerforyou

Madison man I'm sure it was no surprise to anyone that you didn't give to the Salvation army and even encourged people not to give.At least the Salvation army is doing something to help the less fortunate.Instead of posting anti-American hate in forums and causing already depressed and tired Americans more grief maybe you can lay off those who are trying to change the world for the better. My change I give to the Salvation army maybe small but I know it changes lives.

I wont donate to them either. Gonna give me a pickle dance..You and Thomas want to compare receits?. Oh thats right you give to the church...

The salvation army here has become a halfway house for inmates. They use to house the homeless and serve them a meal daily. Not anymore. I guess there is money to be made in helping convicts. Not that there is anything wrong with that!!But to almost eliminate what you do for the poor in my eyes is against what they stand for. When Florida was wrecked with hurricanes a few years ago, it was the local charities that went to the neighborhoods and helped people. Thats who I support and will continue to do so.

Thier name says it all. Thier purpose is not to help people. It is to convert people. Inmates & the homeless are the easiest targets.

Well he knew what he was getting into when he became an officer. Now his situation changes, so he wants to change the rules.

I listened to WWII veterans talk about how when the Red Cross came to where they were fighting in Europe, they brought coffee and doughtnuts, at a cost, and 1/2 a canteen cup at that. But when the Salvation Army came it was eat as much as you like, as much coffee as you want, Free....

They also have the lowest administrative costs of any of the Charities. They are one of the few charities I will contribute to.
The Red Cross dragged its heels when it came to testing blood for HIV, even after it was proven that it was communicable through blood transfusions, as well as for Hep. B too.
The head of the Red Cross collects quite a salery too, used to be more that the President of the United States.

Yes its a religious organization. And they do good work in most communities where they are active. I put cash in the kettle every chance I get, and have taught my daughters to do so also.

This thread was started by a man who posts his profession/occupation as Union. If you want to look at an organization with deep roots into organized crime and corruption,,,,,,,,,,,,
Talk about the pot calling the Kettle red.

To each his own. Support who you want to. I know what I know from donating to them and meeting the people they supposably help so well. What I saw was a halfway house for convicts and the poor and homeless put on the back burner. It might not be that way everywhere but please visit our Salvation Army and see for yourself. Their main building used to house homeless families and their children. Now they get pawned off on other shelters that I would not stay in let alone my child. Again there are many local charities that do a lot more for the people...JMO on what I have seen first hand....Please ask the people of Florida who did what and who didnt do a dam thing after the hurricanes..

Before you say anything about the Union being corrupt maybe you need to look at our own government....The Unions have done nothing but make concessions over the last 20 yrs. There is noway you can blame them for whats going on now!!!!

personaly if we had a just society we wouldnt need the charity organizations as our people would be well tended and educated. Realy do we realy need all those aircraft carriers and nuclear bombs? this world is muddling along as it has for the last two hundred years useing fear to keep the same basterds in power who perpetuate this folly. How long have we had public education and for how long will we put up with this mess? Perhapse some good will come of this economic mess as we may yet see some real posative changes.
