I'm going to the blood donor clinic tomorrow to see if they will be able to take my blood this time

I had steak for dinner tonight, but I was wondering what I should have for breakfast and how soon before I go there should I eat it?

I don't want to faint or throw up or something


Has anyone here donated blood and how was it?

I donate all the time. Eat a sandwich or something light before you go. Don't be in a rush to leave and don't take a bath the night that you give blood. Here in Ireland you get a sandwich and a Guinness afterwards (for the iron!)

I have donated several times, enjoy the cookies and soda they give you afterward's.

i donate all the time, its an awesome thing ur doing, lol dont double reds for ur first time tho!! lol but its more important to eat good afterwards and light before but ull be fine i promise

I do it on a regular basis, well, as often as theyll let me.I think its a wonderful, selfless thing you are going to do.Or anyone for that matter that does so.

To possibly help save a life, there is no greater gift in my book.

As for any problems of feeling weak or sick, during or after, I myself have never encountered such.They will ask you a few questions on a questionaire and afterwards, they will give you a drink( juice,coke,water) and a snack to help you feel better.You can stay as long as you need to.

However, if you are worried of feeling really bad, have a friend drive you.

Last year around this time, they gave out reindeer tshirts that had the blood types on the bulbs !!!

No big deal...no special diet or preps necessary

I know right!!!! ive got like 15 shirts, i even got a sports bottle once lol

I give, but I can't watch them stick the needle in. EEK!

The cookies are nice though, kind of like a complimentary gift, as if saying, "Thanks for letting us prick ya, now eat a cookie, have a shirt, and get the hell out."

But I do love the different colored gauze they wrapped ever so tightly around your arm !!!

My mom and I signed up for Committ for Life not long after my grandfather passed away from a two year battle with cancer that he hid from the family. We try to go every 57 days like you are allowed to for donating whole blood, but at times my iron is low and I have to wait a day to try again.

Eat something about half an hour or so before you donate. I didn't the first time and they wouldn't allow me to donate until I went and ate. Filling out the questionnaire takes longer than the actually donating. Relax, don't cross your legs, remember to breath, and squeeze the ball every 3-5 seconds. I never feel dizzy or light-headed, but they sometimes put ice on my mom because she does. Enjoy the juice and cookies afterwards!!!

Toast and oranges for breakfast woohoo!!!

I have a few shirts myself!! Sad when your Committ For Life shirts outnumber the other shirts. I have even starting redeeming the points I've earned at the Committ for Life store. So far I've gotten 2 flash drives.

When they ask if I want a wrap or band-aid I always go for the wrap. It's usually pink or yellow with smiley faces on it.

I like the bright flurorescent pink or purple and green too.I change it up each time for variety.Oh and orange is cool too !!!
