Well like you say, you are entitled to your child rearing beliefs. I would simply agree with the consensus that spanking and wrist slaps within reason, is perfectly acceptable. It enforces respect of others and the premise behind the repercussion of one's own actions. I still don't disagree with you. I just think that a spanking or wrist slap in the library would still have been more noise, drama, crying, etc (disrespectful of other patrons) than would be appropriate for that particular location. You and I both agree she should have left with the kid. I think you misunderstood. If this particular parent had a history of spanking and wrist slaps, chances are she could have used that BEFORE the child was in full tantrum mode thus avoiding the entire situation. Apparently she was a parent who does not believe in this form of punishment not unlike yourself. I realize that you personally would have left the library. She was not as respectful of the other people she was disrupting. That was my point that more often than not, it will be the parents who do not discipline in this manner that will cause this behavior to escalate. That is the annoyance that people can have with them at times and rightfully so. |

I agree. Nuff already. No hard feelings anyone and like I mentioned on an earlier post, my own brother practices the "no physical discipline policy." Its all good. Clearly the arguments for and against can be made. Thats why it is a difficult issue and everyone needs to decide on their own if they choose to bring children into this world.

Heck no...we're all friends here and hopefully grownups enough not to get feelings hurt over different opinions :) |

I haven't read this thread so if you guys are in the middle of an argument, please excuse me.
I'm just responding to the OP. what will we do when all these "little darlings" that are growing up today, that have had no or very little exposure to God, And no or very little chastisement for unacceptable behavior are out in the world among the working class. Oh, have you been to an airport lately or a government office building. We are already doing it! I'll never understand how morals got tangled up with religion. Anyone who needs religion in order to have good morals is already in truly sad shape IMHO. "A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." - Albert Einstein |
