if the Bible or the Koran (Quran) describes its scriptures in the same form when it is written in a different language. What I am trying to say is if the "meaning" is understood the same way.

I once was told from a Muslim that the Koran (Quran) can only be read in Arabic to fully understand its meaning.

If a Chinese man reads the bible in Mandarin or Cantonese will he get "exactly" the same understanding as if it is written in English.

Now think about it before replying, because languages can get difficult. One can say a phrase in English and once translated it can be a totally different meaning of what is intended to be said.


Now if this is to be true then perhaps alot of confusion is added onto understanding religous documents because of language barrier.

I guess that this question would be more appropiate to someone who speaks and reads different languages. Maybe I will get some answers before the thread makes it to the next page untouched and unseen forever

every Koran is supposed to have the original Arabic text side by side with the translation. So that the people always know that nothing has been changed in the translation

I guess you'd just have to learn Arabic to know for sure

I guess a lot might get lost in translation because the same words can have different meanings. But I only speak 2 languages, so what do I know?

I can say a phrase in English, and it be misconstrued.... add to that the local slang, and the manner with which the english language is used outside of ENGLAND... anything is possible.

Then again, perhaps aussie engrish, and yank engrish, and cannuk engrish ...are not engrish at all...

Just look at all the different interpretations of the English version of the King James Bible!

Protestants and Catholics disagree.

How many different denominations have protestants protested to now?

Clearly they can't even agree on the interpretations when it's written in a single language.



Morever, look at this!

John 12:47 "And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world."

I don't care how other people might take this, to me it shows that Jesus himself did not demand that people believe in him.

Yet almost all Christians demand that it's important to believe in Jesus and accept him as your Savior.

I PROTEST!

I guess that makes me a Protestant!

Clearly the book of John claims that Jesus does not demand that anyone believe in him.

So I can worship my Moon Goddess and know that Jesus is cool with that.

Of course the Christians won't be cool with it, but who cares about them? They don't speak for Jesus.

Even though they think they do.

There should be a writer who rewrites what Jesus was truly trying to do and say at the time. That would be a great book to read and maybe clear up some confusion amongst those who are interested in Jesus and can only find some of the information in the Bible. What do you think?
