What about Red Skelton? They were'nt 'pure as the driven snow'. But they put it in a way that children wouldn't understand. Especially when Martha Raye was on there.

70's comedy called "Soap" if I remember well the one where Billy Crystal was playing a gay men, 2 nutty family that experience so many things we were not use to see or hear in America for those days on TV, I laughed so much with that show just thinking about it makes me smile.
