My company has lost $40 million in business in the last couple of months. We were, up to this point, making $2 million a month in profit so this was kind of a shock.

Last night, 200+ people got phone calls informing them they were losing their jobs. In an hour or so, I will be finding out if I still have one.

I would love to grab one of those bank CEO millionairs that should be rotting in jail for crookery and string them up by their nads. Anyone else going through this right now?

Been laid off for 5 months now...not easy living on $145 a week. I would love to see the government officials take a pay cut and live on what they expect me to live on....talk about a crisis!!!!!!

People at my work were laid off. I work at a small travel agency and we lost 5 of our 22 people. Those big companies losing their workers has had a trickle down affect on the little companies.
It must be nice to be a CEO and get millions no matter if you make money or not.

No kidding, that would be real leadership! The automaker CEOs have promised to live on $1 a year if they get some bailout money. I would like to see some poloticians follow suit.

Of course, all the automaker CEOs probably don't ever have to work again if they don't want to.

From what I understand, they were faking their books to make it look like they were making profits when they weren't. They collected their bonuses, got pats on the back from certain poloticians and praised for what a good job they were doing and have now resigned, scott free.

How that is not a crime, I will never know.I hope they are proud of themselves and their family is proud of them.

Ralph Nacchio (sp) former head of Qwest Communications, a telephone company went to prison for 4 yrs for that kind of stuff.
Stock was $65 a share, and when he was done it was done to less than $3 a share. A lot of retiree's pensions were wiped out.
He should have gotten 20 yrs.

It was just the CEO of Ford that made that promise. He's asking for 9 million, laid out his plan to fix the company (largely selling things off and laying people off and closing up a set number of dealerships) and said his goal is to not even touch the money. If he does have to tap the 9 million, then he will work for a dollar a year.

I have been thinking...if the politicians all take a pay cut of say half of what they are making, this country could be out of debt in no time...and if I can survive on my small amount, surely they could live on half of theirs...JMO

I’ve been out of work for 5 weeks.

Initially, I wasn’t worried, naively figuring that I would easily be able to get another job.

I have my resume listed on 5 different sites and I keep seeing a load of jobs for insurance brokers and financial analysts.

How are these industries surviving?

As a plant manager I have been forced to lay off 2 people so far. I keep in constant contact with those 2 guys and keep everyone remaining here informed. I am about to break the news to my secretaries that I am reducing their hours beginning January. It's hard and no pleasure in this. Our CEO although very wealthy had led by example. He has cut out all Christmas parties (as we should) all pay raises for management (this includes me) and all bonus's for management(This includes me as well and it's usually in the 20,000 range). The CEO has also ordered all 3 company planes parked and the CEO and corp. officials are flying public if they need to travel. I understand you being scared for your job but hopefully your company took measures long before now to try to avoid this. It's not any pleasure on this end either believe me

Wow, I just checked a few things, he got 7 yrs, but is still out on appeals.

My company has started laying off on the backend, they said that they ones that work with the customers which I do will not be effected, but I dont see how. I go to work everyday and pray that I will have a job when I leave that evening. It is really scary. I dont know what I would do in this small community if I got laid off. I know that I would make it, but I just dont know how.

I hope that you didnt get that call. I also feel as you do that the executives of the companies need to do without their big paychecks and bonuses, and spend a few months in prison for robbing their employees and consumers.

noooooooooooo I dont see any backbone here........too easy........unemployment and welfare is too easily available.

I still have kids to support so I'd have to hustle an find work.

And with a hiring freeze going on, thank God for unemployment. I have sent my resume out to 80 different companies and have it posted on every job site available. Although it is the law that applications can not be denied...most companies are not hiring right now, due to uncertainty of what is going to happen in the future. We all do what we can to survive and just because we are out of work, does not mean we are not trying to find it.

It's affected my industry, I might have to take a land job if I can find one.
