I agree that the penal system needs re-vamped as well. Personally though, I would much rather see money being spent on education.

according to scientific research you would have to smoke 40,000 times the amount it takes you to get stoned in order to overdose! yes forty thousand times

No, actually no strict amount has ever been founded. Therefore the results are inconclusive, there has never, ever, ever, ever been a number placed in the amount needed to smoke to overdose. It is mainly based on how THC reacts with the brain, not every one person has the same brain so where one person may smoke a joint and die another can smoke pounds and live just fine.

By the way there have been two documented cases of marijuana overdose as a cause of death...get the facts first, then make bold statements.

Research it, and then publicly post the dangers associated with it when it is legalized...

Hemp itself at least, has many uses which could help our economy and the environment.

This country is too big to be a pure democracy. The fed is too big as a result. States need more power to govern themselves, but that has drawbacks as well...

Legalizing weed is not going to fix our economy, nor the world's.

Smoke up Johnny!!!

I say we need a war on education...

Correct, legalizing weed will not fix the economy it will help but not enought to turn around the current recession "depression". The main problem with it being illegalized is hundreds of millions of dollars are spent yearly to enforce the laws against just marijuana, if it were to be legalized or at the very least completly decriminalized there would be a positive shift in finances with the government.

There have been a number of documented "dangers" associated with the legalization of marijuana, however most if not all are unfounded and purely skeptic (this is in turn because marijuana is not legalized and they are basing the findings off past documented crimes). The biggest problem in the states is it is difficult to do an unbiased study on THC, mainly because the substance marijuana is illegal (this in turn makes it difficult for certain studies to go forward, no substance, no study).

Luckily we have overseas studies that have been done, a lot over the span of years. I would advise looking into some studies that the U.K. has done over the years. There have been several studies out of Europe as well, all unbiased and not leaned on by any agency or government.

Of course there are health risks, but they are few and about as much as a cigarette (though arguably less severe). Then again, there are health risks crossing the street.

By the way, don't take me as arguing. I know there will always be opposition to the legalization of marijuana, though I'm not fully for legalizing it but more for decriminalization on a federal scale. This way it would be easier for unbiased studies to be done as well as less money put forth in cases around the United States against it.

Legalization likely will not happen in my lifetime, but decriminalization is beginning in a slow pace...that is my hope, that we can have it decriminalized on a broader scale rather then just state to state.

I see no greater harm in it being legal, as a matter of fact, I would suspect that it would be of lesser harm for reasons already mentioned...

Funny my names Billy too..anyways heres my two cents...considering I was pretty much called a pothead a couple days ago...figured may as well voice my opinion on the subject.

The reason marijuana is illegal is because marijuana comes from where? Got it....not America...

When you think about THE ABSOLUTE BEST ganja..where ya gonna get it?

Texas? Nope...
New York? Nope...
Chicago? mm prob not...
Maybe Los Angeles? hmmmm..nah

You could maybe get some reaaaaaaaaal good 'stuff' there, but tell ya what? It did not come from those places.

Know where it came from? Outside of the United States of America.

And that, my friend, Billy, if that is your name and from "my buddy up there's comment" I take it, that it is....is why marijuana is illegal...and why it always will be.

questions (and just looking for some insight to this question not to argue in any way)

as far as a reason for making it legal as an economic reason....to help the economy, they would tax pot...correct? my question is this...wouldn't it raise the cost of pot because of tax? would dealers want to file taxes for it? if they get it under the table now without tax...why would they want to pay tax now?

i admit i don't know the whole economics of the taxes, so i was hoping someone could enlighten me on itflowerforyou

Correct, well, in theory anyway. It would raise the price of marijuana because there would be tax to it, given the government would control it we could see a great cost increase to marijuana. However, if it were decriminalized the states would save money versus throwing it at the drug war for marijuana...that is probably the best route to go if this were to go anywhere. I would imagine dealers would have to file for it, and that alone would probably keep it on the blackmarket but even there the cost would increase.

If one factors in the supply increase, factors out the legal risk, the cost may even drop...

huh

 with that said...i don't smoke it myself (physical condition) and i know it can have different effects on people (like alcohol and meds can)

so i don't mind what adults do in their house. if they can handle it without driving (and not all that drink have the sense either) then no problem with me.

i just didnt know if the economic reason was a waste of time if they would be more likely to get it under the table like now or not

thanks for the honest answers flowerforyou

If marijuana was "legal" it would be the hugest hypocracy..I think is the word I'm looking for..EVER..tell ya why...BECAUSE IT WOULD STILL BE ILLEGAL! Because no way in hell would people sell it and get taxed on it when ya can buy it from one person and sell it to another. Thats the whole idea of a "drug dealer." No way we can "manufacture" marijuana. There are too many drug dealers. What we going to do, form a union!?

The word you are looking for is oxymoron maybe, and it's hypocrisy, the government could do several things. First sell it cheaper than it's available for on the streets, therefor making marijuana dealing unprofitable and therefore undesireable for most drug dealers who would probably switch to heroine or cocaine(derivatives) anyways. The government could contract with private growers and purchase it from them en mass. Or legalized dealers. What is a real hypocrisy is that nicotine and alchohol are 100% legal and are the #2 and #1 killers of all drugs respectively. You can get a prescription for sh#% that is way more dangerous, addictive, and expensive than marijuana. I don't even smoke weed, but I see legalizing it would make sense. Does anyone not smoke just cause it's illegal? No, so would more people smoke cause it is legal? I don't think so.

Actually bro check your facts, THC caused the deaths not marijuana, You would ingest the Thc to slowly to be ABLE to ingest enough, however with hashish you can do it quick enough to OD, NOT marijuana, big difference bro, but also like you said its the indidual that reacts diff and 1 joint could potentially kill him/her but so could asprin or advil. so i think if 2 is all that weed has on its Deathlists i bet its at the top of the list for safest drugs to take
