I wonder about the enforcability issue of taxation. It's not like alcohol where you need to have a fairly complex mechanical device and a significant amount of time and effort, in order to get a useable product. With marijuana, you pretty much can just poke a seed in the ground and walk away. How much money would have to go into enforcing the taxation if everyone could grow their own in a planter in their living room? It would be kind of like trying to enforce a tax on houseplants. My guess it would be the same as growing your own tobacco. There are no federal regulations on the amount for growing your own tobacco for personal use... there might be by state though.. |

There are too many goody goody fundamental christian closed minded idiots in office for marijuana to ever be legalized in America.
Maybe someday, but not likely in my lifetime. |

It has already made great strides in just the last 20 years or so, I don't think it is that far-fetched of an idea. As far as the taxation goes, it would make more than it would cost. With marijuana illegalized we spend billions of dollars, if it were to be taxed it would make millions which would be profit if we weren't spending the billions to the program. |

Do you know if it is legal to sell the tobacco that you grow yourself? And what about barter? Do you know if it's legal to exchange, say, your home-grown vegetables for someone else's home-grown tobacco? Which brings up another interesting point. What about pot co-ops? With a large enough co-op, you could effectively eliminate the need for purchasing from an outside source. And pot smokers are just the subversive types who would want to go co-op anyway. |

Margin of error...either way it would be profit so it wouldn't matter. |

Not for a good crop. I can make whiskey in my kitchen in an afternoon. It takes months of growing time, care of lighting levels and types of lighting, ph levels, and seperation of males from females to produce a healthy worthwhile plant. |

Your worried about loss of tax revenue from self growers? Americans are lazy face it lol. We can cook our own hamburger but it is nicer if someone does it for us. Yes a fair number of people would grow their own but unless you have land enough to grow on it is ineffective for a year round supply. For most it would supplement their purchasing, or be a source of high quality/ specialty varieties. Apply a right to grow tax for outside fields. Apply taxes to essentials needed for the growth of the plant. |

With a large enough co-op, you could effectively eliminate the need for purchasing from an outside source. And pot smokers are just the subversive types who would want to go co-op anyway. According to the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, "The Tax and Trade Bureau does not license, or require a permit for, growing tobacco. In addition, the Tax and Trade Bureau does not regulate the sale of tobaccos that are not tobacco products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture may regulate the growing and sale of such tobacco. You may contact this department at their web site at www.usda.gov." Basically, it is hard to find anywhere where they come out and say that it is o.k. to grow your own, but they will admit that it is not illegal and that there are no regulations on amounts grown for personal use. Bartering or selling tobacco products is regulated and taxed. |

Dude, where's my car? Been there, done that! Anyone who smokes, should not want it legalized. It would be regulated so the quality would be worse and the price would be higher. It would be better to decriminalize it to the point that it is not a "sin" to use it. |

In Ohio personal use amounts are a MM, or Minor Misdeameanor. It entails only fines and costs. In the county I live in the local county law enforcement just got voted the highest drug busts this year in the state, out of 88 counties. My county is not the highest in population. I have to say, I think it should be regulated, but legal. People abuse alcohol, robitussin, sudafed, and so many other legal things.... |
