Those mountains are beautiful.

Hopefully im gonna get to go back there the end of next month for a naked dip, a massage & some much needed R & R.

If you cross the Bridge over the French Broad from Hot Springs. Make an immediate left and then follow the river downstream.
After a mile the road will turn to gravel and dirt and enter the forest.

When it bears sharply to the right it will pass between two very steep cliffs.
There is a trail that leads up to the top where you will see carvings made in the rock.
These carvings were made by the settlers when they would gather their families into a block house (No longer standing) during Indian raids. The men would take up positions on the cliffs to defend them.
The carvings are their names and are dated.

On up the road a bit is a waterfall. A lot of people swim there and jump off the rocks on the far side. Its a very popular spot for locals in the summer.

Paint Creek is a tributary creek which runs into the French Broad. Its part of the Pisgah Forest and there are a lot of camping spots and picnic areas there.
If you think you might have a hard time finding it by yourself just ask a local where its at. Everyone does and you'll enjoy it. I promise!

Im taking the last weekend of next month off for another vacation. I might go back to Hot Springs but, i was kinda thinking of going to Harrah's Cherokee Casino maybe. I usually stop in Chimney Rock for some lunch, shopping & goofing off. I dearly love the NC mountains area tho im a city gal at heart so i dont hike or camp.

I lived in Concord for a few years but could never get used to the rat race there.

I always had a yearning to come home. There's something about these Mts that gets in your blood.
To know that at any time you can see scenery that most only see on post cards.
The ability to go from a bustling City (Asheville) and in moments walk into the forest exploring areas that you just cant see from a car window. Spooking a Doe and finding her fawn trembling as it tries to stand or curled up hiding in the leaves so you can barely spot it.
Walking up streams because the banks are too steep and descend to the waters edge, and discovering waterfall after waterfall that one might imagine have not be seen by another human in generations.
Ah, I love these hills.......

Hot Springs is 30 min from my door. Chimney Rock 20 min, and Cherokee ,(Harahs), about 35 min.
But there are so many places to see closer and of equal distances.
Place most people dont even realize.

I lived in Greenville for a while, & NC is a beautiful state with the friendliest people,which is why I subscribe to this forum evn though I live in Wisconsin now. I may move back some day. I hate Wisconsin.
