So, I'm new here, and also new to the area I'm at too. I'm originally from northern Maine, and even recently bought a home there, however, I find myself in Phoenix, and loving it here too. I have always been a wanderer/traveler. I save up to travel as often as possible, and still consider myself a young retiree. So, driving from the very top of Maine all the way down to Phoenix as one of those moments in life when I wished I had a partner with me that appreciated such a long and lovely drive. I have to say though, it is a scary thing to be searching for that one person that, I really do believe, is the right one for you. All the trials and tribulations....well, some people think it is worth it, but me, I'm just ready to find her and have her start enjoying the rest of the ride through life. Does anyone have the fear of that long exciting slow ride through life, by themselves?

After being married all of my adult life(except 4 now) and loosing my husband 20 mo ago, I find it is scary trying to get back into the dating scene.. I miss having someone in my life but won't settle for just anyone.. I too, love to travel and have done a lot of it by myself this summer.. Just take it one day at a time and I guess it will come.. I went to N.Carolina to a singles party this summer and everyone I know thought I was crazy and I knew no one but the person holding the party and had a wonderful time and met some awsome people!!! |

I am finding that friendships are just so much easier to deal with. It easier for me to be myself around others that way. I have found that my expectations and the expectations of others to different. It is definately scary as you say. I am beginning to think it is just my personality. It has taking some getting used to being alone but it does have its own rewards. I can relate with being married most of my life.

I find myself to have become more picky.
The time I have been on my own certainly had an influence on that. The little comforts you allow yourself when you are alone, but that are out of question when you are with someone. I won't just settle for anyone, at our age there has to be something more than just the physical. There has to be common interest, a certain level of intellect. |

Well, a good friend told me through an email that I fall in love too easy, Koolaid. You know what? She was right. Ever have one of these infatuations with someone and then later find out that you really can't stand that person? Everyone around is wondering what you see in that person and when you fall out of the infatuation you are wondering what your friends were wondering of what you saw in that person? Love sure can be blind at times. I have found that it also be deaf and dumb, too.

Tfa, another great post, keep them coming.
Your a wonderful new family member. I am doing alot of travel in my new lifw also. I enjoy the alone time driving & use it to call people & chat. Try getting a nationwide cell program & just start adding #s. If business makes you travel, it it all deductible, anyway. Ever pass thru the I-80/I-29 junction, stop & let's meet. Have a couple empty bedrooms, you can use. |

Hi Tfa,
I fine being alone very scary. I was divorced in 83, dated a little, raised my daughter by myself. When she was eight, I met a nice man and we bought a house together in Goochland. Stayed with him for 10 years. Was having to stay in Chesterfield a lot due to family situation and found out he started see his ex-wife while I was in Chesterfield. He even told her it was his house and I had nothing to do with it. I kicked him out and put the place on the market. I was needed in Chesterfield. Since being in Chesterfield I have not had time to meet anyone. Now that has all changed since my dad passed away in May. I don't go anywhere to meet people. I need to start getting out--but don't like the bar scene. |

I dream too...
Sometimes it feels like the big man upstairs is saying. "I gave you 20 years of marriage...now tough it out..." If you count the dating years it was more like being together for 23 years... Well I am sure that there is a reason or purpose for the waiting..... |

Hey Old Sage,
Thank you very much for the offer. you honestly never know, I may contact you and stop by sometime. Unlike some others online, i have been very fortunate on the few people i have met and remained friends with. One is a lady who lives in the UK and has visited a couple of times and I have visited there once, and the next time she will be bringing her new mate, so it is awesome to meet these kind of people from online. I've also been lucky meeting a few others, but she was the farthest away. As some others have said, sometimes just wanting to be or remain friends takes the pressure off, but finding who we are supposed to be with has an exciting element to it also. This really is a nice site and have enjoyed reading many of these posts. |

Nothing to fret, pal.
If she's not already on the Adventure Highway, that I'm traveling along, then I ain't picking up a hitchhiker who wants to stop the bus and build rocking chairs. If you're like me, then you already put off traveling and years of adventure for this end of life. Good luck on finding a traveler. |
