Apparently, there must be some kind of requisite criteria needed to create a thread that will go a full 50 pages (or more). What's the trick?

Apparently, there must be some kind of requisite criteria needed to create a thread that will go a full 50 pages (or more). What's the trick? There are three kinds I have seen: 1.) Matchmaking threads, because lots of people are interested in being matched up. 2.) Inane drivel. 3.) Clique threads, where the same 6 people post the same posts 100 times a day each until it hits 50 pages and rolls over. |

Having lots of freinds here seems to help and an intresting topic. Some people post on their own threads to keep them going and at the top of the list so more peopel will look at them. Posting time seems to be crucial as well

Controversy and public flogging seem to be big. Nothing says fun like being able to call a total stranger a whore monger....

The reason I ask is, I've posted threads that (I thought) had some substance and would make for interesting conversation. Not all of them, but most. They all seem to drop like a stone.
On the other hand, I've seen threads of "inane drivel" posted that have gone the full limit PLUS, into parts 312 and parts 742 and so on. What gives? |

I am just happy if my posts go to 2 pages LOL |

anything with any type of intelligence will always falter, sorry, but true. If you are looking for intelligent conversation in the forums you are out of luck.

Some of the "inane drivel" threads are really just a group of people hanging out and chitchatting. Very few are exclusive, anyone who wants to drop in and chat is free to do so. While the original title of the post might seem frivolous, for some reason it stuck, usually because of the people involved and not the topic. Might want to check some of them out, you might be surprised and maybe make a few new friends |

If this was math class, we would call it Lowest Common Denominator. Anything thought-provoking or intellectual will drop to the third page within hours. You want long threads? Try something like "Would You Rub Hunt's Tomato Paste on the Kneecaps of the Person Above You?" That one could go for months. |

What one considers "inane drivel" may not be "inane drivel" to others. Some of the threads have gone on,IMO, because the people who posted in them showed respect for the other posters whether they agreed or not and most of those that go on and on people aren't rude to each other. I believe there's several "coffee houses" or ie, bad to the bone girls, or few extra lbs, just because there may be actual FUN going on in them, doesn't mean they're simply "inane drivel".

There's nothing wrong with just idle chit-chat. However, there are times when some people feel the need to actually exercise their grey matter a little bit. Is that okay? |

There's chatting and then there is stupidity. There is a large difference.

When you're hanging out with your buddies after work, or in the lunchroom at work or wherever, do you always have deep philosophical conversations? Or do you just check in to see how everyone's doing, what's new and talk about the latest sports scores? Sometimes, it's nice to just hang out and be casual, comfy and happy or vent if you're having a bad day. |
