There has been quite a few and most have been mentioned already but I would add
"Gone with the Wind" also "Apocalypse Now" which was based on Joseph Conrad's novella "Heart of Darkness". I mean they just re-set it in Vietnam but in the Novella, it was a river in Africa. |

In most cases many people will agree that "the book was better", but here are a few exceptions imo. A Clockwork Orange Fight Club The Shawshank Redemption One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Any takers? A Clockwork Orange--good choice Fight Club--never read the book. The Shawshank Redemption--great choice One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest--No way. Great movie but.... The book is brilliant. And it came first. I'm wondering why no one's mentioned "Silence of the Lambs?" I agree on Silence of the Lambs. Good pick. |

Did a nice job with 'The World According to Garp', I thought. Great film. I never read the book. I did read John Irving's "A Prayer For Owen Meaning". Simon Birch did the book no justice at all. |
