I'd like to think that there will be some breakthrough in the area of human ethics.

Consider what is required simply to stay out of jail in most areas of allegedly "civilized" society.

What would be the status of a hypothetical person who had no government issued identification whatsoever? No birth certificate, no social security card, no passport.

He couldn't own a home. He couln't rent an apartment in most places. He couldn't get a job. He couldn't travel on an airplane. He couldn't buy a car. The only means of motorized transportation he could use would be a taxi or a bus. He couldn't get any public assistance. In some places and times, he could be legally picked up and taken to jail simply for walking on a public sidewalk. In fact, he couldn't even legally have an income above a certain amount.

And the sole reason behind all of this is that individuals, en mass, have abdicated responsibility for their own lives and have literally traded personal liberty for the right to blame others for their own inability to control their own destinies.

So I believe that we must make some major breakthroughs in the area of the humanities or we are doomed to a complete socio-economic collapse on a global scale, if not total racial suicide via any one of a myriad of methods.

As for the speed of light problem: Reaching it is highly improblable because as anything approaches the speed of light the energy required to go any faster is exponentially increasing. However it would be alot more effecient to figure out if gravity is instantaneous or not.

If gravity isn't instantaneous... it's really really fast. Quite a conundrum there though.. how do you measure how fast something is if you can't turn it on and off?

Gravity is not instantaneous, we have already worked that out.

Its waves propagate at the speed of light (we have not observed this but the standard model works too well to be wrong about that and if ligo and geo600 find gravity waves then it will confirm it). HOWEVER the math works out for space time folding, however the energy required would dwarf the energy sol uses ever year.

This is somewhat of a "science fiction" topic, but what might we expect to see happening to the human race in the next 50-500 years? Will there be a global government? Will we colonize other planets? Will there be inter-stellar travel? (Will we lick the "speed of light" problem?) Will we colonize other planets? Will there be an ice age? Will the poles reverse? Will we find a clean source of unlimited energy?

How would any/all of those things (or any others you can think of) affect mankind as a race?

(All "doomsday" scenarios are invited to be posted in a different thread.)

The following is providing technology survives any coming earth disasters:

In 2012:
We will survive the crossing over of the solar system to the other side of the galaxy, via the sun's passage across the galactic equator of the Milky way galaxy. Time (as we know it) may change.

Within 50 years:

A global government will be in place and dissenters will be dealt with. Until that is in place, there will be wars and genocide as always. Ultimately it will all be controlled by the elite and alien royalty.

After that global government is in place there will be "underground" movements and "underground" societies who refuse to be part of the system. If you are not in the system and in the computers, you officially don't exist and have no rights.

Global commerce and open boarders will exist but everyone will require a chip or passport with a location detection device installed in order to travel.

Capitalism and commerce will rein supreme. People will turn to alternative energy like wind energy, sun energy etc. Gas and oil will be cheap.

Humans will not be allowed to colonize other planets. Only certain select people will be traveling to mars and the moon (and maybe other planets) via a device like the one on star gate.

The "speed of light" is not a problem. Interstellar travel is done inter-dimensionally. Space ships are powered by electromagnetism.

There will be no ice age, things are going to get a lot warmer on the other side of the galaxy.

There will be a gradual pole shift.

Modern world is turning, endless dreams; Inventions, sidekicks working day and night. Telepathically activated, modified and exaggerated, top graded computer world's taking control. Space wars and scientific laws upgrading the computers holocaust.

Though I've read Stephen Hawkings' "A Briefer History of Time", I'm still fuzzy on why gravity has to be a wave. In my mind gravity is simply the warping of space by mass. I guess if I accept that the warping has to be caused by something maybe I can get there.

I have miss represented what we know, sorry. The fabric of spacetime can be disturbed enough to cause "waves". General relativity shows this just as you have stated via the warping of spacetime by mass, and energy.

Quantum gravity has yet to be explored, refuted, debunked, falsified ect. I hope it did not sound as if I was referring to duality.

We are looking for gravity waves (ripple in the spacetime fabric), but whether individual particles of gravity exist or not is unknown.

I know of a few 'person non gratis'....they have never had their births registered, not been educated in the mainstream.... never had a tax file number.... and they do fine...

They already have the philosophy of they don't 'own' anything, nor does anyone else... people only own the illusion of possession.

They live transiently, happily, work for cash, have lived in treehouses in South Australia, in humpys in the rainforsts of Cape York...on the beaches all around this great country.... kissed the stars goodnight in the Great Sandy Desert...

They have five kids who are also persons non gratis.... and are the most profoundly switched on kids I know....

There is no need for social reformation... no need for a restructure of humanities.... there's a whole generation a whole movement of people moving back to the global village concept.

Earth wisdom, respect for themselves and others, an incredible grasp on languages, communication, sciences, both natural and man made... religions, both organic indigenous Australian, and european christian, as well as many eastern philosophies.... incredibly competant with constructive thought, emotionally receptive, joyful... an incredible capacity for lateral thought.

Some of the most well rounded unpolluted minds I have ever met.

Evaluation, and assessment is my thing, especially with little people.... and these ones score off the reichter!
