is it chemically a problem or a mental thing?

to me addiction is all in the mind. I could never see how one gets addicted to anything unless their minds want that. I just control my thoughts better then one who chooses not to so i see it simpler then the restsmile2

it is a chemical thing and in most cases ALSO a mental thing.. your body becomes addicted to the chemicals. but your mind becomes addicted to the feelings..

your body becomes addicted to the hormones released during sexual activities..

scientifically speaking yes but if its not the brain that runs our thoughts how come we cant stop the addiction?

Addictions are a chemical problem. Are you referring to neurotransmitters?

the mind is a powerful thing to overcome..
and ANY addiction is hard to break.. if someone is complaining without seeking help then i find it annoying. but if they are trying and seeking help and working on their addictions..
then a bit of grumbeling is permissible i think. lol..
breaking ANY addiction will be the hardest thing a person will go through in their life.

If you are talking about a drug or alcohol addiction, it's because the chemicals ingested changed the wiring of one's brain.

Addicition is all a mind thing if you really think about it, if i found a cigarette smoker whos addicted to smoking I could stop him, its all in the mind it really is

addictions can be subsided.. but once a body is addicted to something.. even mentaly addicted.. there is always the chance that you will fall back into that addiction..

the mind is a crazy place..

You body goes through withdrawal when you quit smoking. That has nothing to do with one's mind. It's a physical reaction.

It is chemical and psychological. Its action to trip your natural high in your brain- dopamine coumpounds or lack of natural occurring salts in your brain- triptamine and lithium. Or using other compounds (alcohol or drugs) to substitute for your natural high. Delicate balance. Most addicts didn't choose to be addicts in the first place. Its either learned behavior or behavior masking other problems or mental or chemical health issues. Fetal alcohol syndrome is an example. The baby didn't choose to be an alcoholic.
