If someone sends you a number when do you think is a good time to return a call? I rarely get "----is a good time for us to chat" and I never know what is good to leave on an answering machine. What is your opinions/preferences on this?

Just call, they will answer or not. If you leave a message they will know you called and maybe call you back.

It is a good practice to ask when a good time to call is, some people are funny about that sort of thing

While I'm working, I generally don't answer my phone, and my outgoing message reflects that ("If you're getting this message, I'm either working or driving.").
My home phone doesn't ring very often anyway, and unknown calls get my machine. My message there is a little odd, and it often throws people for a loop, because they don't know what to say! 
(I know,  ....sue me)

Yea I hate to call people and interrupt what they are doing. Especially if it is family time. People work such strange hours sometimes. The only thing worse than and answering machine is when a kid answers.

Well I always leave a message and state who it is for but I am not going to leave a number on an answering machine in an office. I tend to keep my personal life personal. I wonder if that is too old fashioned? People seem so casual now days.

Being off topic is ok. I have wondered about what to put on my aswering machine. Invariably when I have my hands full of something or step out for a while that is when someone calls back.

if you're too timid to ask.. try the evening time. around or after 8.

With my work scedule I have really weird hours so if someone calls me and leaves a message I am could be calling them after nine or before 8 am.
So I would just call and leave a message asking when a good time is to call |

Just call, they will answer or not. If you leave a message they will know you called and maybe call you back. I agree! |

if they are interested they will make time or tell you when it may be more convenient for them....
just remember...they have a life too, and may actually be doing something else when you call. ~~and you do want them totally focused on your every word right??
