People really need to get past being insulted by labels as mundane as "lady." I've been called a lot worse!

i've seen the same reaction, especially it seems from feminists - they appear to prefer the term 'woman' personally, i like the way 'lady' sounds much better, or even 'girl' or 'female' however, any one of those are much better than a lot of other things i've been called I would retype this but there's no reason..... so I'll just say "ditto" |

Sometimes it is said with sarcasm and meant to insult a woman.. I don't take it that way, as a matter of fact, it is a term of endearment to a few friends and myself. That is how we address each other when we first see each other.

I don't see using the word lady as a bad thing.

I wouldn't ever want to say anything demeaning to any of the chicks I know

like the line from Boyz in the Hood, "Heyyyyy don't call the biotch a ho!!"

I've heard that reaction too, but as to me personally, I read a tone of fantasy fiction books. In those "Lady" is a title like "Sir". My own thoughts: If you want to call me "Lady Nyteflame", or "My Lady" I certainly won't get mad at you :).

so what about "ma'am"?

so what about "ma'am"? That makes me feel old most of the time. I've gotten used to it from the cowboy-set, but otherwise you might as well call me "Mrs. <something>" which is REALLY hard to take! |
