...if your parents do not approve of your lifestyle, beliefs, and choices??? How would you handle if they tried deciding for you? And what would you do if they interfered constantly in your personal business??? I left home at 16 and made my own way.... |

And what would you do if they interfered constantly in your personal business??? Ohhhhh....I tried to please them most of my life. Despite being quite successful, could never be quite be "enough." Last year they were rude to my daughter (who they don't like because she has her own opinions) and my daughter stood up to them - asked them to stop and then left the house when they wouldn't be kind. I finally "got it" at that point...if my 21 year old could respect herself that much, it was about time for her mom to do the same. The student became the teacher. (and honestly...ask me choose between you and my child? NO CONTEST!) My parents haven't spoken to me for almost a year (and I live next door, actually...moved here to help care for them after an illness)but I finally figured out that I am already "enough." If they don't agree, I can't fix that. (BTW - I will be selling my house in the next 12 months and NOT living next door! :) |
