I'd say about 15 to 20% are fake, while 40-60% are legit but dormant, and the rest are real active users

i love reading things like this. online safety is of the upmost importance, especially when there are lots of naive and trusting individuals here looking for honest and sincere relationships who tend to give away too much personal information in the process.

the more people who are 'verified', the safer it becomes for all of us because 'he knows someone who met someone i did'. that doesn't, in any way, ensure that the person is a good sort, but at least it proves that they are accurately reflected in their photos. further meetings with them help solidify their having quality character.

i can verify (and vouch for the integrity of) most everyone on my friends list - 26 out of the 36 i've either met in real life, or someone i've met has met them.

i look at online sites from a cynical point of view in that every single person is a potential fake until, or unless, they have been verified by someone that i know personally. i'm quite sure that most of the times i'm wrong and, in the process, may even step on a toe or two, but my safety, and the safety of my kids, is FAR more important than any hurt feelings.
