Topic: The concept | |
---|---|
I can't grasp the concept of some with the idea that "everyone MUST think like I think, everyone MUST believe as I believe, and if you refuse to think or be like me, I'll attempt to force you.
The most interesting people I ever met were people who DIDN'T think like me, I LEARNED something from anyone who brought something "new to the table" even if for no other reason, then it caused me to challenge my own mind and question why I thought or believed as I do. Nothing grows from stagnation. If we were all alike, it'd be like being invited to dinner and nothing was being served but green peas! (nothing against those people who like green peas) |

I agree with ya. We are all unique, with unique ideas and ideals - that's what makes it an interesting place. It'd be boring if we all agreed or thought the same thing. Now what some people do need to learn to do, in my opinion, is agree to disagree

Why blend in when we were all meant to stand out?? |

It was one of your threads Ruth that allowed me a different view rather then what I had "heard" or was taught to me. |

Great topic, and from my humble perspective, it seems like there are two things happening (at least) when I try to impose my views on other folks... 1) Validate my personal beliefs ... and 2) As a group we are stronger if we all believe it.
Case in point ... the financial system in america ... the concept of money, in fact, is an illusion ... i don't have a million dollars in the bank, even though i can show you something that says i do... i only "have" it if enough other people believe they "have" it too. So if i try not to believe that, there will be those who might try to convince me that my beliefs are misguided - even dangerous ... have a sparkling day y'all :) |

i question everything, challenge most things...people, ideas, thoughts and behaviors.....
sometimes people are too sensitive to the challenges i put forth....they are not personal attacks, they are attacks against the "norm"...it is difficult for some to separate this and it is often perceived as "passing judgment" Simple statements that require self examination are often met with great resistance ....in the world and on here... |

Perhaps if you worded them a little differently you could accomplish the same goal without making people so defensive. What you do is just as important as how you do it. |

Is this partly what you're saying...People are actually perhaps afraid to be an individual and examine themselves rather then trying to examine and change another? |

(sort of...i guess).... seemingly people seek validation of their behaviors....from others.....they will seek out others with similar view points and experiences...."birds of a feather" kind of thing....Individuality is contrary to this...so much that people are struggling to be individuals ,yet, desperately want to "fit in"...this struggle is uniquely "human"....i think....

It is hard to effectively communicate without body language and tone of voice. The emoticons help express intent which tends to soften the blow for the person on the receiving end. |
