Topic: Why the Powell Endorsement (Could) Matter | |
---|---|
The news that retired Gen. Colin Powell will appear this Sunday on "Meet the Press" has set off a frenzy of speculation that former secretary of State could throw his endorsement to Barack Obama.
Powell has made little secret of his admiration for the Illinois senator in the past but has always stopped short of outright endorsing him. Will that change on Sunday? And, if it does, how much is Powell's endorsement really worth? Read more here: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/10/why_the_powell_endorsement_cou.html?nav=rss_blog I hadn't really thought about what his endorsement will mean. Any thoughts? |

if Colin Powell was running for President, I would vote for him. IF he backs Obama and IF he was going to be part of the administration...it would make a difference to me.

I agree it would help to know who their advisers are that would show the candidates in a whole other light |

what if he backs mccain how will you fill if that happens just curious i wish he was running i would probably vote for him even tho he was bush's sec of state I dont think that theres a chance in h3ll he would endorse McCain. He stepped down as secretary because of conflicts of interest with the bush administration from what i remember. Powell is a great man perhaps he'd get his old job back. |

I recall hearing an interview with him some time ago where he mentioned discussing a possible run with his wife. She discouraged him if I remember correctly because she worried about his safety if he ran.

She discouraged him if I remember correctly because she worried about his safety if he ran. I heard he promised his wife he would retire and stay retired. He has been out of the public eye for a while, but I wonder if he is contemplating a return to politics. |

I don't think he will endorse Obama. If he does, he would basically be saying he was wrong about the war in Iraq and such. After having much success in his career, I just don't think that's the way he'll go out.

Someone to respect...
would he sway my vote. Only if HE was running for pres. that I would vote for. |

Isnt Powell a Republican??...who else is he going to endorse if it isnt his own party's candidate?-...Sure he might admire Obama...but hes most likely going to tow the party line....

I'm not sure a Powell endorsement would carry much weight for either candidate...although...he'd be compromising his principles if he backs Barry...
|
|
|
|
also...Powells pretty much Left of center
