Oh, and to add to that, I would be intimidated by someone who made a whole lot of money. Not that that necessarily has to do with intelligence, but I would fear that there would be some comparisons being drawn up in her mind.

Now see....here is something else entirely.

My job, which I love, doesn't pay a whole lot. The money is decent for the area I live, but it's not great.

A woman with a degree, or even a better job, is going to make more than I do. Period.

The problem isn't that I would care one whit about that, which I wouldn't. The problem is that some women would consider a guy that doesn't make as much as she does to be not " pulling his weight " in the relationship as far as the money goes.

Smart women are hot. Period. But I love to watch when a man that is putting on an air of intelligence, but has nothing to back it, runs in to a woman that is much smarter than he.

I think in my area intelligence doesn't impress women. They almost want inti-intelligence. Weird, but sometimes when trying to hold a conversation with some of these bar chicks they kinda retract. It is almost better to say "sup girl" than simply hi. But that's Flint Mi for you. lol

So, my friend and I have had this ongoing argument that I hope you fine males can finally conclude for us. Ladies, please chime in with your opinions and experiences as well.

When a woman is smart -- aka can carry a conversation about things beyond TV and shoes -- has a career, is educated, etc, are you more or less apt to be attracted to her?

My opinion is you should be more attracted to her. Obviously she can support herself and isn't looking for a free ride or a sugar daddy. Also, she's interesting and unique, and guys, you can get a dumb mannequin anywhere. And a woman who is smart thinks of some VERY interesting things to do in bed. Plus, you can bring her home to your family and be proud of calling her yours.

My friend's opinion is that it's intimidating to men -- that we women should dumb ourselves down in order not to scare them away. IMHO, if we have to do that we're dating men who aren't worthy of us in the first place.

So... what's your opinion?

I strongly agree with you but if a man is intimidated by an independent, self-sustaining, free thinker women, then he's not worthy to date her.

A lot of my friends told me that about myself, that i am I way too independent and that I intimidate guys..... but I am not going to change myself for them. If they can't step up to my level, they can't handle me. So next!

You're looking for good women in wrong places. A bar is not the best place to find women with substance. I'm not saying that all women in a bar have no substance but it's hard to conversate with someone in a bar, it's loud and you just have to liquor the women up and they're all yours!

I don't agree with your statement. A man that can hold a good conversation and is intellectual is so sexy.

A good conversation is like a foreplay, exciting and a definite turn on.

See I disagree there. Well at least women of substance don't feel that way.

I dated a guy for 3 years that 80% of the time didn't have a job. He struggled with panic attacks and couldn't work.

I don't care if a guy makes more or even the same as me. I DO care if he thinks I will be his free ride.

Not happenin any time soon. smokin

That's why I said some women feel that way Fade. :-)

I KNOW that it wouldn't apply to all of the women here or anywhere else.

I have, however, run into a few IRL that really are that way.

To be honest....

In a way, I can't say that I blame them for being that way.

I have been in the position of having the one I was with relying on me for EVERYTHING as far as money goes. I don't particularly care for that kind of pressure, but it's not something that would kill me if it happened again.

I am used to not having a lot of money, so it really doesn't bother me much...lol

In My Humble Opinion

Gawd...this makes my head hurt.ohwell

I'm trying like a racing turtle to follow this stuff, but I'm just down the road a ways, with a sore foot.

Find me a lady who is just two steps smarter than me, and can be her own success, and we have a chance at forever together.love

It ain't easy to find. Most women are five or six steps smarter than I am, and they need/want guys who are smarter than they are.ohwell

Easy enough math to do, even for me.

I don't know if this helped to answer the OP.

Hey- so it sounds like ur saying that smart women are attractive to you, however ; u also say that if they don't agree with you 100% of the time, it's a turn off.. that seems like two different things.. which is it?? Marge

Marge, smart women are a turn on. flowerforyou
I didn't see a hint of a turn off, or a need to agree with me.

Understanding that I am not a genius, and that my love is the most I've got to offer.

[P.S. Welcome to the forums. I hope that your leader is looking for you, here, and recognizes that you're the one for him. Also, it is nice to see that you follow your advice, about smiles and eye contact. Impressive.]
