Pat isn't gay. he's just confused and unlearned in Everything. I tend to agree..........besides........I mean that fact that he is so......well, sloppy, and well..........disgusting tends to prove that he is indeed NOT gay in the homosexual sense. In the happy carefree sense of the word, I'd say YES! |
"is Patrick GAY?" my 12 year old asked me this question.........is he? IS he? |
that's one of those questions my mom would have said "it's a blasted cartoon, who cares if he's gay."

Unless.....anyone wants to hear the story "patricks revenge backfires" in which case I will oblidge you. Yea sure we want to hear how you and an entire community abused and humiliated someone, a family member no less, who by all rights could not be on a level playing field with you if his life depended on it. You are a real "hero" guy a real A number one hero. If You really are the person in this story and it is not just some lame story that would make you the kind of person parent's with Special Needs kids hope there is a Hell for. Because it is the pretend friends and family that crush the spirit of people. Dealing wih the disability is the easy part. And we wonder why so many children and disabled adult turn to drugs and suicide to escape their misery. I think I wanna go throw up! |

Oh and who the devil cares if Patrick is gay. You will never make me believe a young kid ask this question unless, maybe just maybe, he heard an homophobic teen or adult throwing around snide remarks trying to be funny. I hope somewhere in the conversation after this question you took a teaching moment to talk about tolerance for differences and not lumping stereo type lables on people.

i am not trying to "make" you believe anything....she did ask the question. homophobic doesn't enter into it.....she is studying sociology at present. the make up of society includes people that are gay....she was wondering if that was represented in the cartoon by the character named Patrick. You know not of the tolerance taught in this household. you have jumped to a conclusion that is way off base. For you to assume that i may have missed a "teaching" moment speaks volume about your faith in people. i am not certain how or why you would jump to the negative in your assumption...Are you that Jaded? If you call me a liar or speak negatively about my child, it only reflects on you...not me.
"GAY" is an adjective not a Judgment. Peace Oh and who the devil cares if Patrick is gay. |

Excuse me did I say your daughter is homophobic or you are? I don't think so. If I thought that... I would have said exactly that. I am definitely not afraid to speak my views. Please do not put words in my mouth.
I stand by my premis that a 12 year old (actually I did think she was younger because I was so furious about the previous post I had that child's age in my mind) but even she would not jump to that conclusion unless she heard this somewhere else. You might be right that there is a significant doubt in my mind that parents, not you specificlly, would skip this teaching moment and that might be jaded. Maybe because I have seen the results of children and adults suffering terribly from such intolerance even recently in dramatic ways in my church family which just knocks me out. It is also something that in all the years that I have delt with people with disabilities is being reported at and all time high. If I actually thought you had skipped it I would have said specificlly that. I said what I hoped you DID and was specificlly addressed what I thought was the approriate way to address the exchange which maybe was not the reason you made the post but generally why people post things in Parent talk. If you believe Gay is an adjective not a judgement then you are right in some instances and sadly, in some, wrong. Describeing or labeling a person or even a cartoon character from a presumed sexual orientation because they exhibit stereotyped behaviors is IMHO (and many people who do consider that at least part of their identity is Gay) as discriminatory, hurtful, and judgemental. It is kind of dicey territory. If you would like for your daughter to have the opportunity to talk to a preteen or young adult to relate to her some of the experience for her paper I am sure I could refer you/her to a considerate articulate person to talk about this for direct quotes and examples. With or without it I am sure you will have encouraged her to write a meaningful paper. Weather you realize it or not the reason I took the time to respond to your post is I have read your profile and many of your posts and found you an exceedingly bright, articulate, and committed parent and a gentleman. That is NOT sarcasm in any sense of the application. Please do not carry through the rage from the previous post to you personally just because they happen to be back to back. |

This is how i "try" to raise my FMA s (Future Mothers of America)
if a child lives with criticism, she learns to condemn. if a child lives with hostility, she learns to fight. if a child lives with ridicule, she learns to be shy. if a child lives with shame, she learns to feel guilty. if a child lives with tolerance, she learns to be patient. if a child lives with encouragement, she learns confidence. if a child lives with praise, she learns to appreciate. if a child lives with fairness, she learns justice. if a child live with security, she learns to have faith. if a child lives with approval, she learns to like herself. if a child lives with acceptance and friendship, she learns to find love in the world. |
