Being in a hot air balloon was one of the most fun exciting and fullfilling things I ever got to do. I was working in radio at the time and was supposed to be doing remotes from the balloon... but my radio died almost immediately after we lifted off, so I was able to just enjoy the experience. It was one of the most peaceful experiences I have ever had. Because you're traveling at the speed of the wind, there is no relative wind..... and I swear you can hear everything for miles. I also remember towards the end of the flight the balloon pilot telling us to "hold on" because we were about to land. I was thinking "how is that possible... I can still see the tops of trees?". Then we hit the ground...... they weren't trees I was seeing... they were clumps of grass. I had completely lost perspective of our height... we were way out in the country and there weren't many good ground references. I'd do it again if not for the cost. See, I knew it was incredible. I'm adding this to my bucket list for sure now. |

It's not too bad if you stay on the tether, it's the actual free flying that can get a bit rocky! My in-laws do the National Hot Air Ballon thing, So if you ever see "Arky" The really big Noah's Ark, you Can meet the Evil Ex-In Laws of mine HA! Are they really that bad???? |

I have faced my fears and have never regretted a thing!!! I went down a 70 ft water slide to prove to my son that I wasnt scared.........I was scared sh*tless!!! But I did it........and I made sure I did it again........... I loooooooooooooove water slides! The bigger the better! Anything that goes fast involving heights I'm fine with. It's the slow stuff that gets to me. |

I have been up in a balloon 3 times so far and hope for my 4th flight in just a few weeks as the annual Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Feista gets underway...this will be my first experience at THIS particular event. Last I heard over 650 balloons had registered to participate this year in the feista, (80 of those are shaped balloons)...a 10 day event! I see balloons everyday on my way to work...such a beautiful sight. My experiences in the balloon have been good ones, longest flight was about an hour...all landings smooth!

I've flown a couple of times. Taos, New mexico was the best. Through the canyons and over the mountains. It is very safe.
Very peaceful...but if your male they usually make you help land it and that can be alot of work. Blowing it up is a whoot. |

That is how I was able to ride for free...at these events, it's very common that the pilots will take you up if you help 'crew', (set up, chase & take down)...that is after all the 'sponsor rides' have taken place. I have become very good friends with a couple from Sparks, Nevada who are "balloonitics" <<< (this is what they call themselves). |

I have always wanted to ride in one. I think it would be awesome. Maybe someday.................

Flying in a Hot Air Balloon is incredible! It sure is an early morning sport (arrgh) but worth every second of sleep you miss! have gone along for the flight several times and also worked on chase crews at festivals. This weekend is our local annual festival...and in a couple weeks the International Fiesta in Albq which is AMAZING! Sometimes people worry about the crowds but honestly,it's the nicest group of people...everyone wandering around with dopey, happy grins on their faces looking skyward. What's not to like???

Here where I live they call it a Night Alum.
It is beautiful to see them light up the night sky. I love watching them, but would not be able to go up in one even if I want too. I am deathly afraid of heights, so its out of the question for me. I will just observe from the ground! |

We have a balloon fest here once a year also
