I'm just kidding. I love ESPN 8! Its the Ocho!
I actually used to follow the Boston Bruins quite a bit when I was younger. Cam Neely, Ray Borque, Andy Moog, those guys were the shizz back in the day. |

I do I do...I'm so excited only a few weeks of waiting. I only discriminate against the Red Wings and the Canucks. It's not that Colorado sports fan inferiority complex either.

i used to follow hockey
til the final four one year, kings vs. leafs, in game 7, when gretzky skicked gilmour in the face, drew blood, and wasn't penalized we already had a man in the penalty box, it would have only evened things up gretzky ended up scoring in OT the other final four being montreal/pittsburgh. it would have been the last ever montreal/toronto stanley cup final. my thinking is that the big american t.v stations would have had no use for that, who would have watched? - and instead wanted a lemieux/gretzky final (didn't matter anyway, since pittsburgh lost) so anyway, i don't watch much hockey after that |

I'm sure I don't need to remind you who won the cup that year. The Red Wings may have dominated a lot the past 5 years, but it's mainly because they get away with more penalties than any other team. then theres the fact that they are in the weakest division. You can't deny that! |

Yeah I kinda stopped following it when Marty McSorley got screwed by the NHL.

You can't deny that! Ah....but you see...even though they are in the " weakest division " they STILL have to go through the other divisions to take the Cup, now don't they??? Not to mention, they have been the dominant team in the NHL for a lot longer than the last 5 years. Starting in the '97-'98 season, they have been the best team in the NHL ( although not always the Stanley Cup champs ) for the last decade or so. Granted, that used to be because Illitch would just go out and BUY whoever he needed to win, but ever since the salary cap took effect, Ken Holland has REALLY been showing how valuable he is. Look at the season before last. They weren't even supposed to make the playoffs, yet they did. |

Yeah I kinda stopped following it when Marty McSorley got screwed by the NHL. Mc Sorley hit a guy in the head with his stick, on purpose. There is no reasoning that would even remotely suggest that he got screwed by the NHL on that deal. He got what he deserved. JMO |

gretzky
One of hockey's biggest whiners. I'd say more but I am tired. I just had to say Wayne is a whiner haha As for the Wings...you can't say they are the Yankees of hockey..you can't buy a team anymore and even when you could there were deep pockets that couldn't buy a team then. I loved the Red Wings, for thirty years, even when they were the dead wings. Hockey is a great game. My dad took me to my first game before I could walk. Please, support the game. |

JMO Oh no doubt that was a crappy move and was justly suspended for the rest of the season, but I was referring to the fact that they then extended his suspension and they blocked him from even playing in Europe. That followed by the lockout killed off my remaining interest at the time. |

another major problem i have with hockey is the obvious lack of a talent pool
there's just WAY too many teams. go back to the original six and that is the way that hockey was intended. even the 70's was still exciting. i'd rather go watch the toronto marlies play now than the toronto maple leafs (especially at probably about $100/seat - for cheap nosebleeds haha) and then along came 'Fox' (the network) trying to make the game more appealing to many more americans (who hadn't before been exposed to hockey). it was disgusting to watch a game with that stupid laser following the puck around. why ruin something that was already great? and what was with the removing of the division/conference hockey iconic names such as 'norris', 'adams' and 'campbell' and generalizing them with 'east' 'west'?? not only does it sound utterly boring, but it's removed the historic and important names from the game. the sticking penalties are horrible. i don't think i watched a game all last season (except for maybe bits and pieces) but amount of stick infractions seems to have increased GREATLY. give us back the good fights (like the great ones between probert and mcsorley) and maybe the sticking penalties will decrease. i cannot stand the 'dump it in' style of play. it's a further indication of the lack of talent in the NHL. i want to watch players who can handle the puck (and their stick) and penetrate the defense with skill. |
