Your own reflection in the mirror over the years helped define who you are now. Why do you hold it against people if they do the same looking at you? MAYBE YOU MISUNDERSTOOD ME,, I AM NOT HOLDING IT AGAINST ANYONE, IT IS A SIMPLE QUESTION,, ONE OPEN FOR DISCUSSION,, I KNOW WHO I AM, WHERE I HAVE BEEN, WHAT I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED, WHAT I HOPE TO ACHIEVE, WHAT I WILL AND WILL NOT TOLERATE,, YOU HAVE TO SET YOUR OWN RULES AS TO WHAT YOU WILL TOLERATE. NOT WHAT OTHERS WILL TOLERATE. |

on the other hand, everyone is entitled to have their own preferences. Even if it is a bit shallow, if they don't want someone with tattoos... they are entitled to that true. but if they can be concealed it's a shame that they don't get a chance to really know the person first. i look like a hardened bada$$ in short sleeves, but i'm really just softy that happens to like tattoos. seems i'm limited to dating gals with tats, piercings, and pink hair...fine by me |

Regardless of what people say...we all still have a tendency to "judge a book by it's cover"(to some degree)...even if we want to or not. I think it is a small part of the selection process! JMO

Well, the biggest thing is not to take it personally.... and just use the time and distance that online dating creates to truly get to know someone else.... and if they have issues with physical appearances, there is a chance they won't be on an online dating site too long.

everyone has their attractions. Whether you think they are shallow or not, you won't just simply date whoever comes along. There has to be something that attracts you to them, physically. Otherwise everyone would just date anyone.

JMO true, but if you base your decision on whether to get to know someone or not based on looks... what if they were the perfect person inside for you, but you missed out cause you thought you didn't like a tattoo or some other feature on their body? |

People can say no till their blue in the face....but the sad fact is yes it matters. Not for me personally but it's just the nature of humans. When I started the Matchmaking Game it was exactly for this reason. For people to get to know others that they would no normally give the time of day too. And it has worked for the most part. But I still get twinkleheads that will say she is to fat or not pretty enough..blah blah blah. I tell them they are going to be lonely souls for ever. sorry feral, but people's perception at best is an assumption not a defining moment in anyones lives. appearances can enhance or deter a persons desire to meet/get to know someone but is it a defining moment - I dont think so, and if they believe it is, it's their loss You are right there fran.....people's perceptions are just that. My point was looking past and getting to know the person......because I think a lot of people including me say nah I would not have anything in common so I am not going to even try. I have missed knowing people sooner because of that attitude. And I agree totally that it would be a persons loss to meet some pretty amazing people just because they went by looks. |

Your own reflection in the mirror over the years helped define who you are now. Why do you hold it against people if they do the same looking at you? I answered your question, and it was a resounding yes. It's not really open for discussion. Whether you hold it against people or not, and I'm sure you have and are sort of insinuating such a thing, is entirely irrelevant. |

Sure, appearance is important. But, the thing is, what might be ugly to one person is going to be beautiful to someone else and vice versa. And to judge someone solely by their appearance, well, it's not right but it's pretty much the way of the world. And to dismiss someone as "not their type" because their appearance doesn't match up to your "ideal" isn't fair, cause let's face it, no one is ideal or perfect. And if that's what someone is looking for, they're going to be one disappointed, bitter and lonely person. Even if they do find it, what happens when the inside doesn't match the outside?
Points to ponder. |

I agree to a certain degree about how one presents themselves, as their styles and tastes and choices are a reflection of who they are inside. BUT, to have a laundry list of what's okay and not simply based on looks is not too bright.
Yes, if someone dresses slovenly, they are likely a slob throughout. If someone wears a lot of floral, they are likely dainty. Reflections of ourselves. I don't dress up like I used to when I was Suzy Banker, and I'm more comfortable this way. And, I've met some of the nastiest smelling and nastiest looking people in banking. Some of them had TONS more money than me and led good, moral lives. There's just so much more to most people than strictly outward appearances. |

AM I INSINUTATING ANYTHING? JUST ASKING A QUESTION IS ALL, I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT,, THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPINION ALTHOUGH IT DOES SEEM A LITTLE CLOSE MINDED,, BUT, THAT IS YOU,, AND I ACCEPT YU FOR THAT.. AS FAR AS JUDGIN A BOOK BY ITS COVER.. LEMME TELL YA,, I AM A DAMN GOOD READ!!! |

The thing is that no one is required to accept you, they have the right not to. Just like you are not required to date anyone you are not attracted to. Everyone has their thing that excites them. Some guys love women with nice legs, butts, petite, tall, whatever it is. Everyone's got their "thing". I happen to prefer taller guys but I wouldn't rule out someone a lil shorter than me. But I have to admit, something about a big tall man just excites me
