i saw someone post a thread about mosquitoes
and it reminded me of one of my favorite insects {{{{{ <<<<< Fireflies >>>>> }}}}}} I miss them so much ... I have never seen them in Northern California... Are there Fireflies where you live ? What are your favorite memories of them ? I remember growing up back east in New England with them all around every night practically ~ it was such a magical time of night They are so beautiful ! and i haven't seen them in years... When we were little kids we would try to catch them and it was so much fun to watch them flying around with their warm golden glow |

Well it was really cool. I was sitting out in the woods (upstate NY), listening to Van Morrison's "Did you get healed"
The song ends with angels singing that line, when 4 fireflies stopped on a tree and lit up for the end of the song...Loved It! |

I used to love catching them as a kid, and now my kid loves catching them. It's so exciting watching her and my nephew run around chasing after them and brings back a lot of really cool memories. |

I absolutely LOVE just sitting back watching fireflies.
There is nothing more peaceful and relaxing than sitting on a front porch and watching them on a night when there are hundreds of them out. |

Some call them Lightning bugs too, guess
it depends on where you are from. I still love to watch them. One dark night out in the country I was rounding a steep curve with my car. I glanced at the roadside in awe- down in a meadowed area of small trees/shrubs where billions of them. It looked like the trees/shrubs were decorated with white Christmas lights. I will never forget that sight ever. It was so dark out, and they were flickering away twinkeling... Natures Beauty... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They say the reason they die in jars over night is because they are flickering their lights for their true love mate. When jarred they are trapped, and can not find their true love... so they die. (Males flash twice to find their lady, their lady will answer back with one flash- when he has found her). (even with vents in the lid). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

I used to love catching them when I was little.
back then they were all over the place at night. It seems that there aren't as many around now. |

I have also heard of them as lightning bugs... they are so fragile and so cute and just precious thanks for letting us know about them dying if placed overnight in a jar... so people will not adopt a bad habit ... i think they have it rough enough with the pollution in the air trying to survive I don't ever remember keeping the bugs for long in a jar, cause i didn't want them to die, just like i never catch butterflies... and I just know they won't make it outside of their own environment for long... that's so cute about the number of flashes.... I saw on animal planet a fascinating story about fireflies... |

Tiny fairies also glow from within they light up almost like fireflies... you can actually see them, if... you have the purest of heart ... if you stand ever so still & if you look ever so closely |
