why when you hear about Dog bites the people involved always say "he's a good dog" then when you find out the history and that same dog has bitten many times before?

If I know a dog bites I stay away from him, what is wrong with the people who know a dog bites and then think he won't bite them?

I had a half pit, half lab and he was the most gentle dog I've ever owned, I had a dalmation and that was the nastiest dog I've ever owned...

I'm saying more so when a dog bites, and the owner or whoever ignores it and then is shocked when they get bit.

The day after i got back from my trip to CO, AZ and New Mexico I went to one of my customers aunts house to do their hair...(shes a Dr's wife) and was greeted by three dogs when I arrived...while walking to their door...one of the dogs bit me on the back of my thigh two or three times...she walked outside and said, "ya he bites" I didnt assess the damages at the moment but later she said " ya he got ya" and when I looked in the mirror after I got home..I a mass of HUGE bruises on the back of my thigh...shes lucky he didnt break the skin....

These people live in the same neighborhood as one of my friends (who is an orthopedic surgeon) and that same dog has bitten one of her daughters...her husband suggested that I sue her...(hes ans Assa prosecuting atty) but I didnt feel the need I wasnt injured....She should have put the dog up or warned me ahead of time, or walked out to the car to greet me...that dog shouldnt be allowed to roam freegrumble

Humm well if I'm aware that a certain dog will bite or might bite. Then I stay away as far as possible and you would think that others would too. Those type of dogs in my opinion should never be taken anywhere around kids. Due to kids tend to startle them and cause them to react in a defense response.

But...then it makes me wonder if a dog bites and is prone to do it again. Then why do the owners not find a solution. There are dog trainers that can teach a dog not to bite when provoked.

And honestly if a dog is prone to bite then there is always that one time they will go to the extreme and could cause serious damage when they attack someone.

But.. then it also makes you wonder how the dog was raised. And if the owner provoked the dog to bite in the first place and their intentions.

Dogs are like children. Train them to be vicious and defensive, then you are gonna have trouble on you hands. Train them to be sweet and gentle, any dog will be that way (no matter the breed). I had a full blooded pit for 12 years. I had to put him down this past April. He was the kindest, goofiest lap dog who thought he was the size of a chihuahua. I have defended pits and rotties since I was younger. I get tired of hearing about how vicious they are.

It's not because of how often they bite, but the damage they can do if it happens. Every dog is capable of biting when it feels threatened. As human as they can seem, the difference is still quite certain that you will not be able to explain a misunderstanding to a dog who is vexed or scared by some action. Chihuahuas have never mauled anyone, leaving them disfigured for life, that I have ever heard of. Chows, Pit Bulls, Mastiffs, Dobermans, Rotts and such all have bigger bites and more power than is worth the risk to a lot of people. This was told to me by an actuary who recommends pet policies to multiple family housing corporations for insurance purposes. If they will not pay, your dog cannot stay....sorry.

I have known many big breed dogs that were more gentle matured than smaller breeds too. It does suck, but so does taking a mauled child to the hospital for pushing another child who's dog ran to protect him. Been there...done that. And it was one of the most gentle animals I have ever met until that 4 seconds of furry occurred. The courts ordered the dog to be put down...everyone lost a great deal.

why when you hear about "a player" the people involved always say "he's a good guy" then when you find out the history and that same man has played many women before?

If I know he is a "player" I stay away from him, what is wrong with the people who know a "player" plays and then think he won't play them?

Unfortunately, you will never be able to defend them to the insurance industry, cause they have paid too much for even gentle natured dogs who felt threatened and snapped. It only takes once...and especially with a child, who will require ongoing plastic surgery as they grow in their skin...it's too expensive for them to insure.

BTW I agree that dogs are very much like children, but...usually gentler. Do you know any kids you would want to have canine teeth and powerful jaws? Look out Mom! pitchfork laugh

This may sound harsh but I think that once a dog has bitten several times he has shown that he is unredeemable and should be put down.
