My favorite restaurant just lost my business. It wasn't the after dinner rush mess they were trying to clean up. I understand that. It wasn't the lack of attention from the waitstaff; I'm getting used to the idea that young girls ignore single women. It wasn't the cold food on the buffet, or the fact that 1/3 of the items were out. It was plain rudeness while I was paying.

When asked how my meal was I usually say, "good, as always". Tonight I said "pretty good, but some of the food was cold." The waitress did not make eye contact. She said "it 9:30 night, we close 10, you come earlier next time". I was shocked. At first I thought ther might be some misunderstanding due to a language barrier. I didn't say anything at 1st, it took a while for the card machine to spit out a reciept & as I signed I
said quietly "maybe there won't be a next time".

On the way out the door I read the posted hours & they were supposed to be open until 11:00. My "nice girl" manners left me. I went back in. I was approached by another young girl & asked what time they closed. She said 10;00. I told her the sign read 11:00 and the food should be hot until 11:00. As I started to excuse myself to the nearest people, one of them stood up & said "I agree & the pans should'nt be half empty either". I reminded the 2 girls that I WAS a regular custumer & left.

Eating out is a treat I don't allow myself often anymore. Are my expectations too high? I have been a waitress & a manager & I don't hold places to standards as high as my own were. I am pretty understanding & a good tipper, having been there myself.
Tonight was only the second time I have ever stiffed a waitress.

I absolutely HATE that kind of lack-of-service at a restaurant. There should be no excuse for serving cold food, even if the place is due to close in a short time.

I woulda left and skipped out paying the bill.

Nothing there seems unreasonable to me.

There is a small Chinese place here in town that is the same way.

They refuse to fix mistakes, are usually rude and blame it on their lack of English and the food quality isn't very good.

Fortunately for them, they are the only place in the immediate area for Chinese food, so they can get away with it without being forced out of business.

Sorry you had a bad dinner tonight. I would have stiffed them too. And maybe talked to the manager.

I'm going to miss those little pork dumplings in hot soy sauce!

Well...a little bird told me that you are a pretty good cook....just learn to make them yourself.

I probably could, I have at least 6 chinese cookbooks & I was taught how to make eggrolls by a little Vietnamese lady. I often do stirfrys & Hunan style dishes. But I don't cook for myself, it's no fun. & sometimes I like to go out & see watch little kids & just BE OUT!

It's a popular place with the ladies at work, maybe I'll ask around & see who the manager is, but really tonight just ruined it for me. I don't like returning to the scene of an unpleasant experience.

But you can go to ANY place to do that.

But I want to eat the dumplings where I can talk to the geeky Chinese boy about his aquarium & watch little kids sucking on noodles & throwing green beans at thier grandma!

Ahhhh...well then it would appear that you will have to make a choice. You can stand by your ideal and not go in there anymore....

.....OR you could go in and have a little chat with the manager. Let them know how you feel about their service, and the other issues you had tonight, find out what their stance is.

If they are sympathetic and promise better service, then you can continue patronizing the place. If they don't seem to care...then make the dumplings at home.

I think that you did the right thing. I would have done the same. It is a restaurant. It is the JOB to make sure that hot food is served hot and cold food served cold. It would be like me at work, serving cold coffee and saying well everything is turned off due to the store closing shortly. It just does not work that way. Customers pay for the service and the product. They should get that product they way it is intended.

Chinese Resturants used to be known for thier cleaniless & service. Anyone else remember when linens & hot towels were the standard? And the host used to hold chairs for the ladies? Now they have succumbed to the average Americans preference for "all u can eat" cheap as you can get it.

To be honest I waited tables for over 10 years and bartender for 10 years in the past. I'm one of the waitresses and restaurants worst nightmares. I do not cause a scene anywhere I go but I will not go back if the food is not what I like. It is one thing to deal with bad service but now there is no excuse to deal with poor food quality. My opinion is if you are open till 9-10 or what ever the food should remain the same quality through out the day. And I do promise you the health food inspectors do feel the same way.

When one lacks within the quality of the food they serve I promise you that you really don't want to go there.

Funny for as long as I have worked within the service area which I have not in 11 years. Do you realize the first place one should look within a restaurant to see how their kitchen is taken care of?

If I go eat somewhere and go to the bathroom and it is neglected I promise you I will never return there to eat. JMO

No matter how much I would miss the food or certain foods they serve. I promise you there is someone else that serves the same food and takes pride in what they serve.
