My oldest brother is a Bible translator in Papua New Guinea, He had no clue what 'balut' was they actually call it something different over there. Anyway when he got there the chief of the tribe brought him there version of 'balut' an ostrich egg with the embryo almost fully developed..he didn't know that until he opened it up, he thought he was going to have scrambled eggs but when he seen the embryo he almost gagged...and threw it out. They asked him later if it was any good, he told them it was rotten and explained the embryo was almost fully developed...that's when they let him know that is the way it was supposed to be...he accidentally offended the whole tribe. But that was a while ago....he made them spaghettii and they couldn't eat it because of the way it looked so now they understand each other a little more lol.
