SILENCE IS GOLDEN

If you watch much "Law and Order" on television, you have probably learned that it is best not to let anyone interview you without a lawyer, particularly if you are guilty of a crime. But in some cases, innocent suspects might be rail-roaded and anything they say will be used against them.

When police have a suspect, they tend to look for damning evidence against that person, and may miss evidence pointing to someone else.

If you are forced to testify at a grand jury, the best thing to do, if you don't get immunity for your testimony, is just to say "I don't remember." Even if you are telling a lie, that is one that is difficult to prove.

In the case of the Ramsey girl, killed in her own house, the police hounded the parents as suspects for years to the extent that they had to move. It has recently been proven that neither they or anyone in their family had anything to do with that death. That is shameful police work on the part of the Boulder Police Department, and a good example of why

Silence is golden.

"Faith is a cop-out. It is intellectual bankruptcy. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can't be taken on its own merits."
