Topic: Hom many MB's are there in a GB? | |

Thanks in advance for replies.
I get mixed up in Kb's, Mb's and Gbs. |

Well Im pretty sure its 1000. Two 512 ram chips give you a bit over a gig when upgrading

1024 KB = a MB
1024 KB = a GB 1024 GB = a TB and on and on. ITs always 1024 units, but many counts use only 1000 as the base: This is why your hard drive will show smaller than it is supposed to be. Hope this was helpful. Its easy to remember once you.. well.. remember it. haha. |

1 GB = 1,024 MB = 104,876 KB = 1,073,741,824 bytes

Or...
There are 8 bits in a byte 1,024 (Or 2 the 10) bytes in a Kilobyte 1,024 kilobytes in a Megabyte and 1,024 Megabytes in a Gigabyte |

check on wikipedia about TerraBytes and such.. the scale goes on for quite some time.
also, the complex bit math was.. awesome. haha. |

Thanks everyone. My modem allows me 5gb per month so that would equate to 5,120 mb per month.
Aww that is so cool. I was under using it. That is really good news. Thanks again all. Much appreciated. |

I also just had it pointed out to me there is a difference between Mb for Megabit and MB for MegaByte. As one is an eighth of the size of the other, this is worth watching out for on specs and advertising. |

In actuality, yes there are 1024KB because of the way the computer is set up, but that is really not 1 GB, that is 1.024 GB. This is measured in the metric system and the metric system uses increments of 10. |
