The law they passed in Illinois is the reason I quit. (You can't smoke within 15 feet of the entrance of a building). Kinda glad they passed it, now. But, yeah, I think smokers are treated like crap, esp here. Can't smoke in a bar? or a casino? Never went there anyway.

Smokers have rights just as we non smokers do but I don't feel that I should be forced to breathe in their second hand smoke therefore putting me at risk. Enclosed areas such as restaurants shouldn't allow smoking because no matter where you sit you're still subjected to the smoke.

I choose to smoke, but not in my home, my vehicle, around children, or most public arenas...and in a smoking establishment, I always ask if the person next to me minds. I choose to smoke, but still think it's a nasty nasty habit and am ashamed of myself.

Do you feel it unfair the way that the smoker is treated in society nowadays? That may be true but a lot of people are killed by drunk drivers or abused by alcoholics and no one is ostracizing drinkers... |

Do you feel it unfair the way that the smoker is treated in society nowadays? I'm sure they're so concerned about my health. I'm betting that obesity kills more people than smoking. But never mind that fat ***** who couldn't take an extra five steps to not walk right by me (wouldn't want to burn off any part of that Big Mac now). And the kicker is all the people benefiting from the taxes I pay on my cigarettes crying and moaning about my habit. Sorry, you asked. |

Do you feel it unfair the way that the smoker is treated in society nowadays? That may be true but a lot of people are killed by drunk drivers or abused by alcoholics and no one is ostracizing drinkers... Thanks for that. Yikes...my husband died of lung cancer at age 37 and I've NEVER felt like he killed himself. He made stupid choices, gave in to addiction etc...but I don't for a SEC believe they get what they deserve! OUCH! ...unfortunately he DID make that choice! People that don't want to have to worry about lung cancer at 37 shouldn't be subjected to being around those that WANT to smoke. Bartenders have to make a living...that doesn't mean they have to inhale all that nasty smoke. I am very sorry for your loss. |

I smoke, but I do find it a rude and intrusive behaviour. I don't like to be around smoke and I always smoke alone. Like outside and in the car with the windows down. I never smoke around other people and avoid smokey bars and restaurants..

I agree.. they don't "deserve" it at all! I have several patients just here recently that we've found lung cancer in.. the youngest being 44! It's very wise to quit but a person has to truly WANT to quit to be successful at it. |

What about your area. Is the trade in the local bars down. Where I am we tend to have house parties where we drink , smoke all we like, if someone don't like it they can leave, they know the rules beforehand.

For those of us who do smoke, it has become a hardship and desparate treatment from those who are so against the second hand smoke (so called) danger.
What about second hand smoke from camp fires, landfills, car exhaust, industrial smoke? Holy cripes! This was not an issue 20 years ago when every one had the choice to avoid....nothing has changed and I feel that those who are smokeaphobic need to take a step back and understand that they are NOT at risk as they think they are. Mind you, there is still no solid proof that smoking causes cancer. It is the pre-dispositioned mind that creates the danger and the hypochondriac person in side of people. If you want to be sick, you WILL be sick! There is much power in the mind and more people need to think of that rather than whining about the elements that we have already been pre-disposed to. Period! |
