I agree that you should be whole to begin with and not "need" the addition but rather want to add the addition. Opposites are fun for a while, but if there is absolutely no common ground, it will wear thin and end. Need to have some common ground.

No, of course not. Differences, sure, but not opposites.

I have seen differences that put too much stress on a relationship...moral standards, religious beliefs, strongly opposing political views and disciplining children.

Different music taste, activities, hobbies and dietary habits etc...can be annoying, but can be worked around. Too many differences in a lot of these kind of things can lead to doing things separately a lot more than other couples, or it can open your horizons to new experiences to share together. It all depends on the couple.
