Sure you can and in the long run if he's smart he'll appreciate your
honesty.
Believe me, I've heard that far more often than anything else and most
of the time when the lady didn't say such she was just messing with me
anyhow. I'd find out later she was just stringing me on with someone she
was more interested in or waiting for someone better to come along. That
hurts a bunch more than getting a "thanks but no thanks" for whatever
reason right from the start.

not sure depends on how sensitive the person is, but the main point is
can you do it before it get's to a point that you are miserably living a
lie to spare their feelings.

Humm sure you can without a doubt it's not hard to say your in a
relantionship , that is as long as it is very clear that you are in one.
For I do agree with Millsdd some just string you along while they are
talking to others in order to see if there is something better out
there. So if your in a relantionship maybe it should be put very clear
if it is just friends or more. People do tend to move on if they do not
know and it does not seem to be going anywhere.
