In the stillness
of forest green I behold an ancient tree seeming to waver in some abyss, branches reaching out for something it does miss. “Ancient one, what is it that you’ve lost?” I crossed into its shadow, waiting for an answer. It did not answer, but only seemed to weep. Yet the closer I came to it, I think I heard it speak... “My sisters and brothers, they are mostly gone. I’ve lived here many life times; I tell you, we’ve been wronged. If you listen closely, their ghosts still sing their song. They once did live beside me until poachers came along.” “Now, most of my family have been cut and dragged away. It is today that you do find me grieving this decay. You too are affected by this corruption and this greed. We give life to feed you so that you can simply breathe.” I bowed before this power tree with roots so deep and true. I vowed that I’d do something to help forest be renewed. This ancient tree regarded me before I took my leave. One voice, two hands, a promise changed grief into belief... ~JDS 07/08/2008~ |

Beautiful insight as we see it diminish so rapidly. Before long it will be nothing but a pavement jungle out there. No vegetation to thrive on. Beautifully written my dear.
