In case you ever want to ionstall XP you will have to use a cd like Maxtor MaxBlast or something similar to boot and format your hard drive because unless I am wrong XP won't install over a newer version of a Microsoft OS, thats why you need to format your HD with another tool and not the one that comes with the XP cd Disk Wizard works great for that.only problem is,it only works from a floppy disc and floppy drives are almost non existant anymore |

That would resolve any format issues. |

After months of inexplicable shutdowns, program crashes and general frustration, I took my laptop to the shop where I bought it and had it the whole thing blown away and "dowgraded" to XP. Didn't have to buy an XP license either, apparently MS allows you to downgrade, their word, not mine!
Brought it home, reinstalled all my software, copied all my files from my external HD and haven't had a problem since. I will admit though that I liked Vista's look and feel, but the problems I experienced were just too much! |

It being a Gateway with Vista. It would've taken the hammer to it. It'll make a better doorstop than a computer. Stupid Microsoft and their dumbness. Look at XP. If you look at the letters, it looks like a sideways face sticking it's tongue at you. And Vista is just the shortened way of saying Viruses, Infections, Spyware, Trojans, Adware. Yep.

I've reinstalled XP more times than I can count and I've never seen it balk about loading over another OS if you format the drive during the install. Once you get it to boot from the CD (BIOS settings), it shouldn't give a rip about what's on your hard drive. At least I've never seen that happen.

I personally do not see why everyone has an issue with vista. I must admit I was a die hard XP fan. Until I got this new HP dv7 laptop. Personally I love it. After killing the nag screens in the user menu. I have no issue with Vista at all.
